Re: set up with cd on MacBook

Yes you are right.. the cd which came with the router will not work with mac or vista computers..
don not worry about it, you can do a manual troubleshooting to fix this problem, i will give you a step by step procedure to fix this problem..try this out ..
To setup your router for a cable modem..
first check..
Connect the Cable modem to the computer using an Ethernet cable without the router installed and make sure that the Internet connection is active. If it is not, contact your Internet Service Provider. If it can go on line,
to setup connection..
Step 1:
Connect the Broadband modem to the router’s WAN or Internet port.
Step 2:
Connect the computer to any available numbered port (1, 2, 3 or 4).
NOTE: In this example, we’ll connect the computer to port number 3.
Step 3:
Make sure the power adapter is plugged to an available power outlet.
Step 4:
check if you are able to go on line wired..
if not your router has to be configured first,
to config your router first check this settings..
Configuring TCP/Settings in MAC OS X
Step 1:
Click the Apple icon, select Location, then choose Automatic.
Step 2:
Select Built-in Ethernet under Show.
Step 3:
Click the TCP/IP tab and select Using DHCP under Configure or Configure IPv4.
Step 4:
Leave the Search domains or Additional search domains fields blank.
Step 5:
Click Apply Now.

You should now be able to access the router’s web-based set up page and configure your router.

Accessing the Router’s Web-Based Setup Page
Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router’s IP Address ("" is the default IP of most Links-ys routers) then press [Enter].
Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a User name and Password. Leave the User name space blank, type in your router’s password ("admin" is the default password), then click OK.
Step 4:
When the router’s web-based setup page appears, click the drop-down arrow under the Internet Connection Type field and select
Automatic Configuration - DHCP.and then scroll the page down and click save settings..
Step 5:
Click MAC Address Clone you would find this sub tab at the top in the blue bar.
Step 6:
Select Enable and click Clone Your PC’s MAC.and click save settings..
Step 7:
Click Status at the to right side ion the black bar
Step 8:
Check the value of the Internet IP Address. If the Internet IP Address has numbers, this means the router has been properly configured. You should now be able to access the Internet. If you’re not on-line, perform a power cycle to synchronize the router with the modem.
Power Cycling
Step 1:
Shutdown the computer.
Step 2:
Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3:
Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4:
Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5:
Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6:
Power on the computer on and test the Internet connection.

Now if you are on-line wired remove the cable from the laptop and check for wireless connection

i am sure this would fix your problem in case if you have any more issues revert back to me..

I have a Linksys wireless-G 2.4 GHz router directly connected to my PC. I've just bought a MacBook Pro and want to go online via this router. The Macbook finds the router but cannot connect to...

The reason you cannot connect, is you have to match the settings from your router to Airport- usually it requires you setting the security on your router to a specific WPA2, Wep, or no security- invariably I have had trouble getting clients to get online with the WPA2 set to the either or setting- but set it to either public or private- they're online. Anyhow, in order to do that- you will need to log into your router- if you have a pc/mac hard wired into the linksys via ethernet, open a web browser window and go to it would be under wireless security. Match the settings on your Macbook, you should be able to go wireless at that point. Another solution, depending on your internet service provider... is that the provider could share your system remotely and assist with getting you online wirelessly (I know for a fact that Verizon DSL Business does do this. )

Is too short for her MacBook Pro. -Thanks.

I would recommend purchasing a newer router that is more powerful. The Apple Airport Extreme is a fantastic router. If none of these choices work then you can either connect your Macbook via ethernet or move it closer to your router. here is the Apple Airport Extreme.

Cant set up router on new macbook pro

Are you trying to run the CD on the MAC computer. CD will not work on the MAC computer. But you can set up the router manually without the CD. Are you able to go online on any other computer . If your router is already set up and you are trying to add MAC computer to the network then you don't need to run the CD. you just need to add the computer to the network. If you are trying to install the router for the first time then you can do it manually. Click Here for step by step solutions

How to install D-link DIR 300 for MACBOOK

You shouldn't need to install anything off the CD. Simply plug your Macbook into the DIR-300 via ethernet (making sure you manually set your Macbook's IP to 192.168.0.x (where x is anything from 2-254). Then open up your web browser and type into the address bar. This will log you into the DIR-300 (I think the default login is "admin" with no password).

Refer to the manual for the configuration for the rest of your setup.

Installing with mac

you can configure that router without using the bundle CD. the default ip address for that router is open internet explorer then type the ip address which is then the default username is "admin" (without " ") then password is "admin" also. then you are now on the linksys webpage and you can configure there. it is much easier to use rather than using the bundle CD.
hope this can help you!
good luck
