Could be a few different things, one that you can check is the lamp door switch, if the door that covers the lamp is not closed correctly or the switch is not in the right position the set will give your symptom, the only other reason would be a bad ballast and that`s not something you can do, you`ll have to call a tech for that, check the lamp door switch it may be all that`s wrong, good luck & Happy Holidays

MY TV HAD GREEN SPOTS AND THEN WENT BLANK. I REPLACED THE LAMP AND NOW WHEN I TURN IT ON THE POWER BUTTON BLINKS GREEN 3 TIMES AND THEN YELLOW 2 TIMES. THE SCREEN STAYS BLANK

The lamp will not fix the green spots. That is due to bad polarizers in the optic block. The lamp is only a white light. http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/PT44LCX65.PDF

According to the manual you are not getting enough airflow which would explain the optic block failure. Make sure the TV has lots of space for air around it and is not inside a cabinet that would overheat it.

Most often, I find when servicing these televisions, the lamp has failed but it was due to poor fan circulation. This television has at least 3 if not 4 fans. If you take off the back and find these fans are filled with impacted dust, the fan may be causing the failure. Also check to be certain your door safety switch is making good contact. These tips should ber of assistance but check your fans. A clean inside of a tv is a happy tv!

Sound but no vision, black screen

It's either the backlight lamp or backlight inverter is busted due to a power failure or fluctuation. Here's how to determine which is which:
  1. Grab a flashlight.
  2. Turn on the TV.
  3. Shine the flashlight onto the screen.
  4. If you cannot see any display even a faint one, the backlight inverter is dead, else the backlight lamps are busted.
  5. Replace which ever is the culprit.

I was watching tv when the screen suddenly went blank. I tried to power off and back on. The power button blinks a red light and nothing happens

The TV has sound, but no picture.
The lamp is the most common part that causes this symptom. If you have purchased a new lamp already, click on the “Signs of Lamp Failure” link below to check your lamp or contact who you purchased your lamp from for a warranty claim. Look at the indicator lights on the front of the TV and use our chart by clicking the link below to find out what error the TV is displaying to help you. If you have not purchased a new lamp, the lamp is the most common and cheapest repair for this symptom. A defective circuit board can also cause this symptom in which you should contact a certified/trained TV technician.
If your lamp shows any of the signs listed below, there is a high probability your lamp is defective.
Find DLP lamps by model number

Common Signs Of Lamp Failure
- Cloud or haze near the center of the lens.
- The burner (the stem in the center of the lamp) is broken
- The burner has a white bump on it (usually near the bottom)
If the lamp does not have any of the characteristics described above, you check by brand below for LED flashing light codes to keep troubleshooting.

The lamp can cause the picture to cycle without spitting out a lamp error. I'd replace the lamp and clean out the dust/dirt from fans, etc to hopefully resolve your issues.

Sony KDF-46E2000 - Screen Goes Blank

You definitely have a bad lamp. Sony rates the lamp life at between 4000 and 8000 hours. There are 3 things that effect the lamp life, listed in order of importance:
1) number of times the lamp is turned on and off. Every time the lamp is first fired, it takes life off the lamp. Customers I see that turn the TV on in the morning, leave it on all day and then turn it off on the evening can get up to 12000 lamp hours
2) ventilation. Be sure you have at least 6 inches of open space all the way around the set and that the vents are clear of dust and debris.
3) power. If the power is interrupted when the set is on, there cannot be a proper cool down cycle. The fans will run after you turn the set off to properly cool it down, if the power is lost this cannot happen. If your power is unreliable, buy a small UPS to let the set finish a cool down cycle

Occasionally a lamp will faill before the average lamp time due to being defective. from your purchase date it sounds like you got about average lamp time. Be sure to purchase AN ORIGINAL SONY LAMP as a replacement, becuase the aftermarket lamps are bad news, Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!
