Question about JVC Cybercam GR-D90 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Uploading a video clip to my computer

I have a JVC GRD90U camcorder. When I hook it up using the mini usb port on the left panel of the camcorder ... and the other end to a usb port on my computer, this is what happens. If I switch the slidebar switch on the camcorder to " DSC: , I can see on the camcorder screen that communication is established and I can then upload any still pics from the camcorder's media card.

My problem is when I attempt to upload video. I have a program on the computer called windows moviemaker. That program has a "capturing device" command line which when clicked on is suppose to search for a device. My camcorder is on " PLAY" ( right side rear 4 position switch) and the slide bar switch on the left side is at "VIDEO:. The computer always prompts that a capture device is not found. Please try again.

I have a Dell computer that is about 5 years old. I have Windows XP professional installed. Any help in this dilema is greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

The issue may be that your camera captures via FIREWIRE for video and USB for stills. It's a common issue. You'll need hook up your camera to a firewire port. If you don't have one due to this PCs age, you can always pick one up for about $20 and with XP pro, installation is practically plug and play.

But I'll tell you this. If you're computer is that old, do yourself a favor and double the memory. Video is a bandwidth hog and if you don't have enough RAM, you'll run into all sorts of dropped frames and synch issues.

It's also probably time to start looking to upgrade that Dell.

Hi, I have a JVC GR-D750AA digital video camera. I do not know how to download the things recorded to my PC. I have also bought the USB cable n tried but the camera USB port is not recogned by the PC. I do...

Turn the power switch on your camcorder to "Off." Connect the USB cable that came with the camcorder to the USB port on the camcorder. If you are using the DV cable, connect one end of the cable to the computer first. Put the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on your computer. If you are using the DV cable, connect it to the camcorder. Power on your camcorder. Wait while your computer recognizes the attached JVC GR-D270U camcorder. Typically you will get a pop-up on your screen asking how you want to proceed once the camcorder has been recognized. Open your video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere, Roxie, iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. Import, or capture, the video from the camcorder to your computer using the video editing software. For example, in iMovie you click on "File," then "Import from Camera" to download the movie from your camcorder to the computer.

Having difficulty connecting the jvc gr-d370 to my computer using Windows Media. What must I do to retrieve the video from the camcorder using the USB cable?

I had this same issue. I solved it. The USB cable will NOT work to transfer video. You need a IEEE-1395 fire wire cable. I purchased the internal card and cable for under $20.00 for my DELL computer direct from dell. After you connect your camcorder to your computer, I clicked on windows photo gallery. Then in top left corner, click file and "import from camera or scanner. Your camcorder must be on video mode and play mode. Your computer should recognize the camcorder, click on it and then it will give you options, like you can upload and record direct onto DVD. I liked the option of uploading manually because if there are blank sections on the DV tape, the computer will stop uloading. Hope this helps.

How do you get to upload video's onto the Computer? Is it possible?

Use the provided USB cable that came with your camcorder. You'll need to install the software and drivers from a CD that came with the camcorder into your computer - if you don't have it, go to the JVC website and download the files. Yes it is possible to upload videos.

Upload video

The USB on your camcorder is for downloading still pictures only. If you want to transfer video to your computer you need to hook up a firewire cable, which is to the right of the USB connection. Firewire is also known as 1394 connection.

Hope it helps.
