Try using 'Network Magic' free download from their site. I find that this product makes connecting easy. You do not need to purchase the PRO version, the free will work fine for connecting.

If that does not work, log into your router using a wired pc and check if MAC addressing is enabled, if it is you will need to update the table with your new laptop's MAC.

If not, disable security and test to see if you can connect, if you still can not then you may have a issue with the pc. If you can, then check to ensure that the encryption you are using is supported by the PC's wireless card.

Turn reset the password on the router, re-enable security and try again.

I just got a new router and can not connect it to my linksys wireless card on muy laptop

Does anything else work with the new router? What are the wireless card and the router? What set up did you use for the router address and how did you find it? If nothing else works with the new router, then it is fairly safe to assume that the new router is not set up correctly or is not functioning. The usual problem is to get the addresses that the LAN is using to match up. The default address on the router should match the gateway address in the first three sets of numbers out of the four sets 192.168.1.1 is a typical address. If the address of the gateway is 10.0.0.1 they will not see each other until someone tells them to look in that group of addresses. The router is talking to 192.168.1.x addresses while the gateway is providing 10.0.0.x addresses. So one or the other has to change or the managing PC must tell the LAN to look for both. The easiest is to set the router up so that it is in the same range as the gateway so they see each other. To do that you need the address of the gateway. You might have to contact your service provider to find out what it is. If you have Windows 7 and can connect the PC to the LAN using an Ethernet cable, do so. If you can connect to the internet, click on Control Panel, then 'View Network status and tasks' under 'Network and Internet'. When the window comes up, click on 'Full Network Map' on the right side. The resulting map window will display the address of each part if you hover the mouse pointer over the icon. Look for an address like IPv4 Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in the icon that the internet world connects to. This is the gateway address. Whatever the gateway address is, the router needs to be similar in the first three sets of numbers and the last set must be different. (There is another way, but this is the easiest to describe.) Now connect an Ethernet cable from the router to a PC. Open your browser and type the address of the router into the browser like 192.168.1.1 on the address bar, a window will appear and ask for a user name and password. Use the default user name and password for the router. So if the gateway is 10.0.0.1, set the router's address to 10.0.0.191 or to some other number less than 255 in the last set. Then, change whatever else needs to be set up, Save and exit. It should now have access to the internet over the router. If you need to go back into the router again, the new address 10.0.0.191 will have to be used instead of the default and the new password if you changed it, so write all of this stuff down.

Cant get to my linksys home page

Is there any computer connected to the router ?
If not then connect the computer to the router.
Check the IP address and the default gateway number.
Default gateway number is the IP address of the router. You will need to use this number to open the router set up page.
Open the Internet explorere. type the default gateway number in the address bar. Do ot type www. or http:// , just type the defaul gateway number and hit ENTER on the keyboard.
if that doesn't work then on WINDOWS computer click START. Go to RUN. in the RUN box type http://192.168.1.1 ( suppose the Default gateway is 192.168.1.1 ) and click OK.

Modem and wireless not talking

If u r inside a wireless network and internet is ok, u will able to ping both the wireless router gateway and modem gateway. If u cant ping the modem gateway, u can try connect the modem directly to your pc, and test again. U need to make sure the modem is OK, and able to connect to internet. Then only u move to check router. This is due to very often internet access having problem.

Wireless set up problem - no gateway ip or limited connectivity

Connect using Lan Cable
be sure to enable java on your Browser.
Use ONLY IE: some router refuse other browser.
SET your PC on a static IP address on SAME subnet as your router (but of course different IP).
If subnet concept is NOT clear to just just ask here.
When connected with router (on Lan Cable) check every setting (WPA-PSK) TKIP key, Broadcast / Channel etc.
You can also disable every WLAN protection and restore it later.
Activate WLAN connection WHEN you are STILL connected.
Last but not least: SET your DNS IP address = your gateway IP (router)

Laptop wireless connection

Hi .

LImited access no internet service means that Authentication of your wireless network is not up.

You must know what your wireless encryption is and you can check your manual/guide for your router or gateway on how to access it.If you dont have it anymore than you can access your router by using your desktop computer w/c im sure is hardwired to your router.

By using your desktop we need to look for you default gateway by ff the steps below.

For win xp:

Start > run > cmd .... on the Dos window type in ipconfig /all

it'l then show your default gateway . It would look like this .192.168.xxxx

If you have your default gateway , w/c is your routers physical address Open your favorite browser and on the address bar type in your default gateway. It would route you to your routers page. Most routers ask for your username and password. When youre able to access your router you'l have a chance now to view or change your wireless settings.

Hope that helps. Pls let us know if you have further questions or clarifications.

Good Luck .

Cheers.
