Re: Scratchy and distorted sound in media player

There are a few possible reasons for this.

1. Your drivers are bad, look for new updated drivers from vendor and from windows update.
2. Your system is under heavy load and has trouble playing sounds, you can try to close not needed programs from the taskamanager.

Also, download process explorer'

after extracting the program from the zipfile pay close atention to what is useing the CPU take note if INTERRUPTS / HARDWARE INTERRUPTS or DPC's / Deferrend Procure Calls are happening alot. This can be a sign of hardware problem or complex windows problem. In this case I would recommend reinstalling windows. If the problems continue it is most likely a hardware issue.

If INTERRUPTS and DPCs are normal between 0 and 50, for short perioids, can be higher, but if constant high values then this is a problem.

If those two are not a problem go thrue all applications and find out witch is eating all the cpu, when found try shuting the program down by pressing delete after selected on process manager.

If these dont solve the problem I'l type more later.

The sound on my laptop is scratchy, how can I fix it?

? you didn't specify which program you are using to play the audio;
- the stock media player that shipped with XP is WiMP9 not 10 and definitely not 11 which is Vista's media player,

if you were "auto updated" to 11 you could be having those lovely DRM features playing havoc with your system,

? try a different player, if they all sound like junk then the possibility of sound chip failure could be on the horizon

? try an external sound device, ie a PCMCIA Audio Card

Distorted, scratchy sound with Toshiba Satellite

OK, I would restore or recover the computer to manufacturer's original specifications and automatic update to the latest sp3.

Then, I would reinstall your virus protection and see if it's better.

Bad quality sound reproduction.

I would start by trying to replace the sound card driver - link.

If that doesn't work, it may be an issue with the speakers themselves.

Scratchy sound from cd/dvd combo

This could be a couple of Things.
First if it,s DVD Player related. it could be that The DVD Player, needs the laser Head Cleaning. Any dust-grease or similar on the Laser head, will cause Distortion. The second option is the DVD Player itself. Some DVDs are removable Drives. with An eject Rom button underneath the Laptop. This will enable you to remove. Check the drives connection Pins At the rear of the Drive. ** Clean with a Bud/Swab moistened in lighter fluid/Meths** replace the Drive.
The other possible problem would be with your Laptops Sound Card/ Board if Fitted.
Finally The problem could be related to a motherboard Fault i.e Bad earth or other internal Component Fault.
Go simplist first ( clean the DVDs Laser Head.
Then Remove the actual DVD Drive if Possible. ** Check Connections At rear** Ensure that the drive has not been dislodged from its connector to laptop mainboard.

Regards And Good-Luck.

DVD player sound

is the dvd a retail dvd, or a copied dvd? can you play music cd's ok? if the sound is stuttering, you may have too many other programs running. Check the systme tray amd close down all other apps and icons. most likely a problem with the laptop needing more memory to play the dvd. also try another dvd player like vlc or, or for updated player codecs.
