Need help with my Hoover Savvy U8172-900 -- agitator does not spin when on

How do you get to the other end of the belt from the agitator? The belt seems fine and not too stretched, but the agitator does not spin when we have the vacuum on. Please help. I went to and there wasn't any diagram of how to get to that area of the vacuum.

You probably jammed the roller brush and the gears on the motor stripped the teeth out of the drive belt.  You have to take the bottom and the top covers off the lower unit to replace the belt.  There is a hidden screw that keeps you from taking off the top, thus creates work for authorized Hoover repair shops.  You'll find that screw under the round red label in the center of the top of the lower section.  Peel it up and there is the screw.

You do know when you lift the vacuum up the agitator will stop. I Lean it on it's side with the foot pedal pressed down and see if it's turning. There is a safety feature on the vacuum that shuts the agitator off when you lift the vacuum up.

Hoover cleaner model u5057-930

Hi! Below are step-by-step instructions on how to change the belt on your U5057930.

1. Place handle in operating position and turn cleaner over so bottom side is up.

2. To remove bottom plate, insert end of flat screwdriver into wide area of right-hand slot and push handle of screwdriver to the rear.Repeat in left-hand slot.

3. Lift extension of bottom plate, rotate plate and remove from cleaner body.

4. Remove agitator and broken agitator belt.

5. Slip agitator through new belt. (With lettering toward outside of cleaner) and position belt in belt guide. Push end of belt into opening in cleaner body. Reposition agitator making sure to align flat sides of projection on belt end of agitator with flat sides of slot in cleaner body.

6. Place the three tabs on bottom plate into slots in front of cleaner body. Snap bottom plate into place over agitator.

7. Remove hood by turning cleaner over and removing nozzle control knob on front of hood -- grasp knob and pull up.

8. Place handle in operating position and turn cleaner over. Insert end of flat screwdriver into one of the four slots beside an arrow on bottom of cleaner.

9. For slots nearest the rear wheels, push handle of screwdriver toward cleaner handle; for remaining two slots, pry outward to release latches.

I0. Turn cleaner over and lift off hood.

Il. Stretch new belt onto motor pulley.

Extra effort may be required to stretch new belt onto pulley.

Turn agitator, making sure the belt is not pinched between agitator and cleaner body. The belt must rotate freely inside the belt guide. If agitator does not turn, remove bottom plate and reposition belt in belt guide. Hope this helps. If you have further questions feel free to reach out to us hear on Fixya!

I keep having to replace the belt on my Widepath Hoover Temp. Last time, the belt wasn't broken but had come off the spool. How can I secure the vacuum belt and/or stop it breaking? Thanks for any...

First be sure you have the correct belt for the machine. The current belt may be stretched, but not broken. The correct belt is # 38528033, or in a package of two, the package # is 40201160. When you have the agitator out of the vacuum, stand it on end and make sure it turns easily. If it does not spin freely, there may be hair or string in the bearings which will need to be cleaned out.

I replaced the belt with part# 40201 on my Hoover model# U5473-900; to only have it break again in 5 seconds! Is there something missing that holds it on that little bar?

When a brand new belt breaks in 5 seconds, this can only mean 1 of 2 things.

1. The roller brush itself may be bad and need replacing. If the roller brush's bearings lock up, and the brush can no longer spin freely, this will cause the belt to burn up immediately after you turn the vacuum on. You may test your roller brush by taking it out of the vacuum, and hold it on the very ends of the brush with your fingertips. Make sure you are only holding the bearing caps and not the brush itself. While holding the two bearing caps with your pointer fingers, try to spin the brush with your thumbs. Does the brush spin freely? If no, then you'll need to buy a new roller bush for your vacuum, unfortunately the bearings are not sold separately on Hoover vacuums. If the brush did spin freely (you should get at least 7 rotations out of one spin) then see reason number 2 below.

Your model uses Hoover Agitator Brush Part 48414132.

2. The belt was installed incorrectly. When a belt breaks immediately like this it can also be a result of it not being installed properly. When installing the next belt, after you have put the roller brush back into place, pull forward on the belt to make sure that the brush spins when you're pulling forward. Sometimes I pinch the belt underneath of the brush roller, and it will not spin freely, and will burn immediately if the belt is pinched.

It really can only be one of these two problems. I hope that this repair solution was helpful to you. If you need me to clarify something, please just request clarification here. If it did help, please be sure to rate my repair Helpful. Thank you so much!

How do I install the timing belt on my Hoover Savvy Vacuum? Modle # u8174-900 Where is it located?
This is a parts schematic for your hoover savvy. You have to take off the brush guard on the bottom and also the cover on top (there is a screw under the round hoover logo). You will then see how the belt is attached. Very easy to do. Hope this helps

Hoover US8174-900 Savvy Bagless

It uses a cogged belt, turn it over, remove the bottom plate, remove the other screws from the bottom, turn vac back over and remove the Hoover emblem, there is a screw there to remove and the top comes off, then you can get to and replace the belt.

Hoover savvy motor problem

The problem is the lower roller assembly circuit board fried. It happened with mine as well. I tried to order a new circuit board from Hoover, but they get it third party and don't want the liability. This is very frustrating. I'm waiting for them to call me back.
