Commercial dryer- maytag

The screws on the dryer look like a torx but they have sort of a pin in the middle as if you used a torx screw driver and drilled a small hole in the end. What the heck is it ???

It is called a t-20 security screw and the bit is available at any maytag parts store. and you can't drill the hole evenly enough to be of any use.

What type of Tamperproof Screw do I have TP3, Torx, Tri-Wing ?

Most of us know of the humble Flat-Head, Philips-Head, Pozidrive, Socket (Allen) and the now more widely used Torx Head as the most common type of screw head but what are the other types called and can you buy drivers to unfasten them ?

Here is a sample list of all those that you might come across
  1. Flat-Head (the most common)
  2. U-Shaped Head ( Flat-head with the middle missing)
  3. One-Way slotted (goes in with normal flat-head but can't be removed using a flat-head can come in Oval, Truss and Round)
  4. Philips (aka cross-head also very common)
  5. Frearson (similar to Philips with a narrower cross-head)
  6. Pozidrive (PZ similar to Philips but designed for more torque)
  7. Robertson (Square)
  8. Hex Socket (aka ALLEN Key)
  9. TORX ( 6-pointed star)
  11. TTAP ( similar to standard TORX there drivers can be used to insert TORX screws but not the other way round)
  12. Torq-Set (similar to Philips but the four arms of the cross are offset with respect to each other so a Philips wont fit)
  13. Tri-Wing (aka Tri-Blade)
  14. Opsit (reverse threaded Tri-Wing)
  15. Spanner (Snake Eyes)
  16. XZN (Triple Square)
  17. Polydrive (Castled)
  18. Splinedrive (similar to TORX 12-pointed star)
  19. DoubleHex (similar to TORX 12-pointed star)
  20. Bristol (Castled similar to Polydrive used in Avionics)
  21. TP3 (Triangle Recess Pan Head)
There are also Security versions of numbers 2 (Secure-Philips) 5 (Secure-Torx) that have a Pin-head in the centre I am sure there are other Pin-Head versions as well

I had a AC transformer that had a triangular recessed screw head and I had already tried to use a Tri-Wing screw driver but I began to shred the wings and I just couldn't find the name of it eventually found it to be a TP3 Tamperproof Screw

All you need do click on the screw-heads and they will turn and open up the name and type of screw it is.

Finding a screw driver that will open a TP3 is difficult to say the least I have a minor look on ebay as this is a specialist screw type and expensive

Another difficult type to get hold of the the Tri-Wing or Tri-Blade now common on all game stations from the Nintendo GameBoy to the X-Box

How do I remove the front panel etc. from a Maytag MDG6700AWW dryer. But not standard Maytag assembly.

This appears to be the Samsung made dryer built for Maytag. Remove the screws for the main top located in the rear left and right, the rest should be down hill from there. This model may have screws one left and one right under the bottom of the front panel too. Pleazer Appliance...

Water spewing from the front, don't have tool to open housing

Dear outfielde901,
Regarding the sprays out of the front, this could be to many reasons. Most common is an inlet elbow is broken inside. Even the head could be faulty. But the most important is to open the cover. Yes you need a Torx 15. A torx 15 is a very simple screw driver, that it is not flat or philips...but it has a six ended end. The screws have six ended holes. You can very easy buy a set of screw drivers and in the set you see that you have a T15. Now it is better that the T15 has a hole at the end. This is called a security screw driver. In the screw there is a little pin in the a normal T15 will not fit. If you are lucky, all screws might be normal with out the little pin. So a normal T15 will do. I bought various sets of these TORX from ebay for a very little price. If you buy a set consisting from T10 to T20 and even T30 andT50 it will be better. You can also buy these screw drivers from a normal tool shop or iron monger. My edvice first buy a T15 to open the cover.....then see what tools you need more. This because some washers they have inside Allen Screws. So then you buy a set of Allen Keys.
The other problem for you might be from where you buy spares. This I cannot help you, because I am not from your country. So remember ..a T15 is a simple screw driver. With a cheap set of Torx and a set of Allen Keys you can fix your problem yourself. Very Simple!!!!

Not heating for my MayTag commercial Dryer

You need to remove the front panel and check to see if the glow bar is lighting. If it is and you aren't getting any flame 1 of 2 things can be wrong the gas coils could be bad or the gas valve itself could be bad. the easiest way to check the gas coils is to take off the front panel (you will need either a philips head screw driver or a T20 security star bit) and loosen up the bracket that holds the gas coils down. Don't remove the screws completely. start the dryer and lift up the bracket. If it seems like the coils are pulling the bracket down then the coils are good and you will need to replace the gas valve

UNPLUG DRYER, 220v is not fun
You get in the back of the dryer, from the front.
maytag dryers have two screws in the curve of the bottom of the front panel. (Note:screws may be torx-secure screws, cut a slot in them and use a flat screwdriver or pick up a torx-secure #20 bit at a tool shop, star shape with a pin in it)
remove the screws and the front panel can be swung up from the bottom and unhooked.
unplug door switch wires
reach under drum, for belt tensioner, pull belt off tensioner. and motor pulley
lift drum up and slide out forward
under drum are 2 rubber tired rollers, check for free motion, replace both if either is seized
the drum has felt bushes on it
examine felts for wear, replace if worn.
ensure all felt and adhesive is scraped from drum before fitting new felts, if there is any left, it bumps/thumps and knocks every rotation (best adhesive is Hi temperature red silicone)
use 2-4 pairs locking pliers(visegrips) to install felt
  • put adhesive on drum edge
  • clip felt in place at one point with visegrip
  • pull felt around drum, clipping in place as you go
  • let sit in clamps till adhsive sets
reassemble drum in reverse order
38d7d07.jpg while you got it apart is a good time to clear any lint from exhaust vents and squirrel cage fan,
felts last cost $30/pair rollers $9/pair
takes 45 minutes now to change felts, I do rollers while the adhesive sets, had a lot of practice, replace the belt, cost is minimal, it has been *****ed pulling the drum against the worn felts or rollers, and will break soon, dont want to open up again

Loud sort of grinding noise while drying stops then restarts again maytag front loading mdg308daww need help as to how to get panels off to access drum and motor

unplug dryer
front panel screws are mounted in the bend at the bottom of the panel, hidden from easy view by the bend.
  • may be torx secure screws, either cut a slot in the screw head and use a flat screwdriver, or buy a torx secure #2 bit at the local alltools
swing front panel up and forward, unplug door switch wires, set panel aside,
examine roller bearings,
drum felts,
belt tensioner
for wear

takes longer to type than to open the dryer
good luck

NEED TO REPLACE BELT ON MODEL lde 412 series 02 serial no. 618 889 PX

its a maytag,
LDE 412 series 02, the labelling printing machine at Maytag is notoriously crappy

Unplug dryer
Remove two screws at bottom edge of front panel, under the lip facing up so they are hard to see.
  • May be TORX secure screws(star shap with a pin in the middle), TORX secure bits ~$6 at good tool shops, or cut a slot across the head of the screw and use a flat blade, throw the torx away and replace with phillips head screws, easier for next time
tilt front panel up from the bottom and unhook it from the catches
undo door switch cables
place door aside
lift drum out
motor, belt, bearings, felts, are all easily accessible.
check felts and roller bearings before you put the case back on, often a seized bearing is cause of belts breaking

While you have the case off pull all the lint n **** out of vent and motor area
