My photos are printing with vertical ban...

My photos are printing with vertical banding . Strangely, the banding is white and appears to run behind other objects in the picture. The ink is full. I have cleaned the print head, checked the nozzles and realigned but no success! My printer is a few years old so is it past its sell-by?
