Once the factory 6V adapter is pluged into my JBL base unit the base
light flashes rapidly from green to red and the unit will not play the
iPod. I have installed new alkaline batteries and the same still occurs
while pluged in to the 6V adapter. Upon removing the 6V adapter the
base unit plays the iPod and the units base light stays a steady green
as usual. I also noticed that my iPod unit is not charging, as it did
in the past, with base power off or on.

I accidentally plugged my external hard drive cord into my jbl on stage micro speaker dock (the cord fits both) and think I shortcircuited the speaker (i.e. it won't turn on now). Is there any way to fix the speakers or are they dead now?
