I have a Pitco 35C+S fryer that goes out. When I relight the pilot, turn the gas on. the burners light and blow flame hard for a second or two and then die down to normal. It will relight with the thermostat set still set. Is there something wrong with it? I didnt think it would light with the thermostat on.

- I'm sorry, when I light the pilot and then turn the gas on with the thermostat off it does light. What do you think I need to change out. Gas valve $145.00 Thermostat $250.00

- A Pitco 35C+S. After lighting pilot, i turn the gas valve to on. The burnners blow gas real hard for a second and then go to normal. All this while the thermostat is off. What part do I need to change

- Thank you for your response. I think I need to share some more information about this fryer. This is a 35C+S. These fryers have a thermophile rather than a thermocouple. It is to register 400mv + or - 50mv. It has a manual thermostat. The type that the gas runs through it. The problem is that when I re-light it (With the thermostat off) and then turn the gas valve from pilot to on. The burners come on. When this happens the gas is at way to high pressure that drops back to normal within a second or two. I'm needing to know if I have a bad thermostat or a bad gas valve. Would the thermostat not keep the gas from the burners or can the gas valve make the thermostat release gas allowing the burners to light? I'm not sure about of the sequence of operation with this fryer.

- I'm leaning toward the thermostat because I think it should not let gas to the burners unless it is turned on. Although I'm not sure if the gas valve can over ride the thermostat. What I realy need is the sequance of operation for the Pitco 35C+S. Does anyone have this info. Thanks

ur issue can be fixed by replacing the thermo-coupler. 6 bucks at the H depot
if youve changed the thermo couple and it didnt work.then its your gas valve it is either stuck.or needs replacing.
You can not check a thermocouple by resistence. You have to check it by millivoltage when it is hot and sensing it should be above 500mv.
clike here and choose your state, and pick a company close to you, they will either have the part you need, or can get it relatively quickly....
Thank you for using Fixya
Have a nice day.....

With the thermostat on the burners are still getting gas. that's normal. If it lights with the thermostat off you do have a severe problem. (bad gas valve/Tstat). The pilot does occasionaly go out on all no electronic ignition items is normal. Follow the remommended steps for relighting and if it lights fine your ok.

- All the gas valve does is allow the gas to flow in from the line. Does your Tstat have a mechanical knob (connected to a gas valve) or is it all electronic (wires only). If electronic you could infact have a bad gas valve being the tstat activated the gas valve allowing gas to flow in. If mechanical could be the valve is stuck open. make sure there are no signs of gas smells.

Hi,

On your request I have the following documentation.

Operation manual

Parts manual and schematics.

Regarding your problem, I am not very confident with this type of fryer, however after giving a look at the schematics I think that you should check the orifice and the thermocouple on pilot, part 5 on diagram below:

I think that excluding the mechanical thermostat part 14 below should not prevent the machine from working, however if the thermostat is faulty it may stop the gas flow.

Regards.
