The display in any mode shows only a some a couple vertical and horizontal lines, a grey rectangle and a black rectangle. The camera DISP button changes only the intensity of this image if I hold it down for a couple of seconds. I can still take pictures by looking through the view finder and transferring them to my computer. However, I'm pretty much restricted to using AUTO mode, since I can't see changes to any settings.
I'm not sure if the problem has to do with moisture, since it cropped up suddenly on a foggy day, but the problem has not gone away with time, nor has it been intermittent.

I know the Display is working because the camera setting show up, but point the camera at a person to take picture and the display is blank/black... person does not show up on display. I took the picture any way and when I review the pictures, they are black...no person. I tried to reset default settings. That did not work. Any ideas?

I have a problem with Canon SD850 in zoom mode and low light. Outside in less than sunny weather, if I zoom on a subject the LCD gets really dark (almost black) when I compose a picture. Picture will come out just like LCD.
