Question about KitchenAid KBMC140HSS Convection/Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Door spring yesterday my wife opened the door and a part shot out onto the floor. I appears to be a piece of spring material - about 1/8 in round rod bent into a right angle. About 3/4 in long on each leg. I assume it is a part of the door spring since the door seems heavier now. Can you tell me how to get at the part of the door where this may be located and replace it ? Thanks Bill

thanks for the answer. I already broke the glass just like you said. What is the way to get at the 2 little screws on the bottom of the door ? Do I have to remove the hinges and if so, how do I do that ? I have ordered the springs and new glass. I also got a mailing to sign up for extended warranty at a cost of $170 for 2 years. Do you think that is a good thing to do with this oven ?

My spring is also broken. I bought springs through Sears Parts (there are two, and they are different) but I cannot get to them. I have the stainless door off, but cannot get the plastic off that covers the springs. The two small screws underneath are very tough to reach and have a top I have never seen. They are not Phillps, and don;t appear to be Hex or Torx. Does anyone know what they are? Shall I give up and call a service pro?

This model is very tricky you will damage the inner frame if your not experienced ,call for service and save your money, there are 2 springs inside the frame that criss/cross and they may look alike but are not, when you undo the screws the door glass will let go and fall to the floor if you don't know and crack the inner fram assy. thats plastic ,there are 4 screws that hold the door together that you can see and 2 more inside you can't. the 2 on the bottom of the door that support the glass are hard to getat.the micro wave oven can be seperated from the bottom unit and pulled foward for access of screws.

Sounds like a spring let go, or the plastic piece that the spring hooks onto broke. Either way, the top cover will have to come off. Could be an easy fix unless something broke.

Maytag MMV4205 door won't stay shut.

After tearing apart my microwave, I found a little spring broke off the latches. Open the door to the microwave, pop off the plastic piece that the latches on the door go through. You will see a spring behind the latch. If the spring is not connected to the latch it won't operate properly. The spring was held onto the latch with a tiny plastic piece that broke off. An easy solution instead of buying a new latch is to heat up one side of the spring without burning yourself and melt it through the latch piece where it was originally connected then put everything back together.
Hope this helps,

Sharp r520kst door wont stay shut

If the door will not stay closed it is the spring inside door, or the small plastic piece that holds the spring which is attached to the $80.00 piece called outer door.
To fix it, it is EASY and you do not have to even take the inside cover all the way off. Just remove the three sides of cover by gently slipping a plastic putty knife around rim to release the clips. Then attach the spring to the small hole below where the plastic piece used to be, which is located in the metal on the glass frame piece, use tweezers, hold the other end of spring as you place spring onto plastic door latch and set into place!
Snap the inside cover back on and YAY! FINI!

Door won't engage and stay closed

Possible that the lock was broken and so the door opened. You can remove the front panel and check for broken plastic or nylon pieces which can be glued using instant adhesive.
Reset the lock and switch and the door must lock in correctly

I have a Kenmore Elite Microwave Oven - that I need to replace the door latch on... (plastic prong broke off - and I got new piece in the mail without any install instructions or door design) So, I do not...

Most of them you do have to carefully pry. You look on the inside of the door and you will see the choke seal. It runs around the whole outer edge on the inside of the door. Take a butter knife or a small screw driver and start to pop it up and out of the door. Slowly work around the door until it is completely free. Once you get that out you will see the door hook and will just have to look how it is mounted into the door. There will be a spring attached to it to allow it to pull up and down as the door is opened and closed. Make note of where the spring is attached to the inside of the door frame. It will have to hook onto your new part and back on the inner door.

I had a tension rod break in my door as well. There are two of them that cross forming an X and you can see them when you open the door and look in the crack. Fixing them is very easy once you get the outer panel w/ glass and the black molded plastic piece off. WARNING, when you open the door there are two screw on the inside top part of the door assembly. THEY ARE THE ONLY TWO SCREWS HOLDING THE ENTIRE FRONT PANEL/GLASS ASSEMBLY IN PLACE. I found this out the hard way. When the 2nd screw disengaged the whole assembly came crashing down shattering the glass and nearly cut off my toe. Be very careful when taking off the outside panel!!!

Next challenge...the black molded piece that also needs to come off. To remove this take off the piece that surrounds the exhaust tube to get at two screws that are directly underneath the molded plastic piece. After getting that off you have access to the two rod and can get them installed without to much trouble.

Again, be very careful when removing the front panel. My repair went from an 18 dollar tension rod to a $200 dollar front panel and nearly cost me a toe (yes, I was barefoot).

Panasonic microwave door is stuck. The door is not opening

If you push in on the open door button and it just goes in and does not open the door, then the problem is that the plastic piece that actually opens the door has broken. You can verify this by removing the cover from the microwave and look inside. If you are handy just buy the part from the panasonic parts store in your city and replace it. If not take it in and they will replace it for you.

Good luck

Door latches to microwave broken

I assume you're talking about the spring that keeps tension on the door hooks (latch heads, as they're called by Sharp). When you shut the door, the "hooks" are held down by this spring to actuate the door switches. To fix this, you'll have to separate the door panels. You can download the service manual from my Web site. There's a loop built into the latch head assembly and sometimes the loop breaks. If so, you can drill a tiny hold in it and reattach the spring there. There may also be a loop on the innner door panel to hold the spring. That one can break, too. If it's broken, you'll have to find a way to secure the spring to the panel. If the panel material is thick enough, a tiny screw eye could be inserted, then epoxied overnight to secure it. I've attached a diagram to this message that should help you. If that doesn't help you, I have the service manual for the R1600-series microwaves on my Web site at: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1610.pdf Repost if you need more help.
