Question about Maytag MER5775Q Electric Kitchen Range

Open Question

Maytag MER5775QCF Had been working well since we bought it. Went to use the oven, it heated up OK to 375, I put dinner in, about 45 minutes later I heard a noise in the kitchen, it almost sounded like the door lock engaged. I went in & saw an code on the display. It was 88, with the first 8 filled in. I tried to clear it by holding the cancel button down, nothing on the key pad is working, it's not beeping. I unplugged the appliance & left it for about 15 minutes, then plugged it back in again, but the same 88 came up. Would appreciate any advice.

Oven wont work everything else is fine

As your oven is electric there is a heating element in the oven, have a look in the oven to find it and check the little plug in caps on the end to make sure they are not loose. If they,re ok check the switch on the front panel sometimes the knob comes loose on the spindle if that's all ok it may be the switch has failed. Good luck.

The oven preheats, but then "cools down" before I

Most likely the problem is your bake element. When the oven is preheating it uses both the bake and the broil element. When it's done preheating it uses only the bake element, so the broil element is heating it up, and since the bake element is not working the temperature drops until it starts preheating again.

Was cooking dinner, and in the middle of dinner, I walked away and heard a popping sound. I checked the oven and it stopped working. My husband turned the breaker off and back on and the stove top works...

It sounds like the bake or broil element went bad and they will make a popping sound. Usually it is visible on the element that it is bad. You may have to measure the element. It should measure 8-30 ohms if good. If there is no visual sign and you are unable to measure elements keep oven off until a repairman comes. Please rate me after reading this.

Stove control panel not working

You do not have a fuse or overload button on a Maytag cook-top. If you heard a pop, it was the touch pad on your control board blowing out.

Oven heats very slowly

If your top burners work ok, regulator should be ok. Majority of times the fail part in the oven is the ignitor...turn oven on and check for a flame after 10 mins. small flame could mean a bad safety valve.
