This happens so much with upgrades! We think we are making our pc's better, and then find it doesn't like it. I am assuming you completely uninstalled millenium, then tried to load xp? If you did not, the registry still has parts of millenium on it, and is asking for this. You need to completely uninstall millenium first. You need to obtain mill copy, and select uninstall, then when done, put in your new xp disk and try again. Lilacgerry xxx

My dell optiplex 950 has been reloaded with XP service pack 3. it runs well, has 3 gig ram and ample hd storage.

Why would you want Win XP? It's old, no longer supported and a security liability. Upgrade to Win 7 or 10... the sound drivers will probably load and problem solved.

Those error codes don't really mean very much to the general consumer, but blue screens of deaths are caused by bad RAM memory in your computer, not viruses. I'm going to take a guess that your computer is either several years old and/or it constantly get quite warm? Heat can shorten the life of computer components by quite a bit. You may need to get one of your RAM cards replaced to solve this issue.

There's a free program called Memtest86 that you can run to determine if this is the case. It will scan all your memory and look for bad sectors. You can download it here: and burn it to a CD. What it does is create a bootable CD that will execute the program as the computer turns on to scan all the memory. There are full instructions on their website. The process can take an hour or two depending on how much memory your computer has, and if it turns up any bad sectors then you know what your problem is.

A computer can run with bad sectors in the memory, but it makes it unstable that it will keep bluescreening, so if you have bad sectors in your memory it might be better just to replace the RAM. Luckily, this isn't too expensive. For instance, if your computer has 4GB of memory, it probably has 2 2GB RAM cards installed. You can get a 2GB replacement notebook memory for, I'd say $30 or $40. Installing RAM is very simple, and if you're willing to install it yourself, it won't cost you more than that.

HELLO!PLAESE HELP ME.I HAVE dell vostro 1015 windows vista but i want to convert it into xp,the problem is whenever i try to install windows xp a blu screen appears saying that something about my bios

Are you using a full version retail or OEM copy of WIN XP to install? Or is it a recovery copy from another PC or laptop? You will need to use a full version disc to perform the retrofit. You will also need to download the WIN XP Drivers for your laptop from the Dell Site. You CANNOT "upgrade" install WIN XP over VISTA and keep your drivers, settings, files. Performing a WIN XP install will require a total wipe of your hard drive. Therefore you will have to save off all your personal files before you do this. Microsoft doesn't provide assistance for downgrade-type installations, so you must basically wipe your hard drive and then reload the OS.

You need to purchase a Windows XP or Vista installation disk with its Product installation Code. You can purchase a upgrade version cheaper than the full product, but you need the original ME CD.
You may not be able to purchase Windows XP and Windows Vista may not work efficiently on your computer because of the age of your computer and Vista is very resource hungry.
You may consider purchasing a new computer with Windows 7 as a better option. Windows 7 is due to be released in Oct.
