I have a similar problem on a Dell Inspiron 9100. After failing to power up, I removed the battery and the laptop powered up again and it worked just fine on AC power only for about a year. Recently, however, it won't power up even on AC power. When I press the power button control lights blink a few seconds and then the computer shuts down without booting into Windows. I observed that if I leave it unplugged for a day or two, it usually powers up successfully when I plug it and try again. But then after running for about 30 minutes it powers down by itself and then it wouldn't power up again in the same day. I did a BIOS update as instructed on the Dell website. I cleaned the cooling fans and they seem to work just fine. I even managed to check the HDD for errors and then reinstall Windows and I am sure that the problem is not there. The laptop originally used an XP Professionsl as OS but I updated it 6 months ago to Vista Business and it worked perfectly. Until now!!! Can anyone help, pleeeease?

Hello Bacus,

Seems more of a Hardware problem to me, however, try this :

Remove the Laptop Battery and disconnect the Notebook from the Power Adapter. Leave in this state for abt 3 Hours, After that , just connect the Power Adapter to the Notebook and try Turning ON the laptop and see.If it Turns on then you have a "Dead Charge" battery. If not let me know.
