I have a similar problem on a Dell Inspiron 9100. After failing to power up, I removed the battery and the laptop powered up again and it worked just fine on AC power only for about a year. Recently, however, it won't power up even on AC power. When I press the power button control lights blink a few seconds and then the computer shuts down without booting into Windows. I observed that if I leave it unplugged for a day or two, it usually powers up successfully when I plug it and try again. But then after running for about 30 minutes it powers down by itself and then it wouldn't power up again in the same day. I did a BIOS update as instructed on the Dell website. I cleaned the cooling fans and they seem to work just fine. I even managed to check the HDD for errors and then reinstall Windows and I am sure that the problem is not there. The laptop originally used an XP Professionsl as OS but I updated it 6 months ago to Vista Business and it worked perfectly. Until now!!! Can anyone help, pleeeease?

Hello Bacus,

Seems more of a Hardware problem to me, however, try this :

Remove the Laptop Battery and disconnect the Notebook from the Power Adapter. Leave in this state for abt 3 Hours, After that , just connect the Power Adapter to the Notebook and try Turning ON the laptop and see.If it Turns on then you have a "Dead Charge" battery. If not let me know.

That is a security configuration on HP Laptops, depending on the way they blink is the problem your machine has.

Here is the web page where this info is posted, in case you need more info, hope this helps you to determain.

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with the HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) beginning in late-2008. On startup, you may see a blank screen. If the diagnostic utilities detect a specific problem with hardware components, the fan turns on, but the screen remains blank. To help identify the cause of the problem, various LED lights on the keyboard blink a series of codes. The diagnostic utilities use the LEDs near the Num Lock or Caps Lock keys to blink a series of error codes. At the end of the series the blinking stops. The pattern of blinks will occur any time you attempt to start the computer until the error is resolved. Battery power LED blinks The Battery power LED indicates the condition of the power supply. When starting the computer, or when the computer is in operation, use the chart to identify the power condition. If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition. On My Dv5-1125nr both the caps lock and num lock keeps blinking when i turn it on. It's wont boot at all. What kind of hardware problem is this?

First remove the battery and power cord for about a minute. Then plug back in and see if that helps. Otherwise please read the following:

My laptop will not turn on

Try another AC Adapter with the battery taken out of the laptop. If the light still blinks then that means the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

All I receive is a blinking power light when I press the power button. This occurs whether I have it plugged in or try starting with just the battery. I get know sounds from anything, fan, hard drive,...

Issue can be a mainboard lockup. Please perform full discharge/power cycle

- Unplug AC adapter and all other attachments (If any, such USB drive etc)
- Press and hold the power button about 7-10 seconds
- Put the AC adapter back and turn it on

If issue due to temporary circuit lockup unit will turn on
If issue persist please post more by indicated more symptoms, such as heat, pattern of the blinking light etc.

Good Luck

Battery light blinking red during charging

Dell or Panasonic? Your post has both listed.

If the blinking light on a Dell is yellow or amber or orange (somewhere in that color range) and continues to blink the entire time it is plugged into AC power (wall outlet) and when you unplug it from the wall the laptop immediately dies .... then you battery is dead and needs replaced.

If the blinking light stops after a while (perhaps a minute?) and then turns green while plugged into AC power, then it is successfully charging - or so it thinks.

When you unplug it from the wall, does it stay up and running?
If it runs, it's OK - just ignore the light and plan on getting a new battery one day, start browsing now. :)
If it dies immediately upon unplugging, then your battery is dead and needs replaced.
