check if the LINE is connected in the RIGHT JACK (LINE), not in the TEL jack. Check the panel or display if it is in (FAX OR AUTO) if the mod is in TEL it won't receive.
Yes, you must set up your fax machines like this: The receiving fax must be set to auto receive and the telephone line must be inserted in the "line" input. A line must then be connected from the "Tel" to the "Line" of the Transmitting machine, which must be set to "manual receive." This is not really a satisfactory way of doing things as you can't send and receive 2 machines on the same line together. A much better way is to have 2 lines. with a machine attached to each. Get the tel company to put "No answer transfer" on the line as an accesory. Give them the number of the fax machine that transmits. Make it "manual receive" Now you have a versatile system that you can also use the office telephone with.
It may be a silly question but it is a common error have you checked the cable is in the line socket and has not been put into the tel socket on teh back of the fax machine as this will cause a fault.. youcan check this also by dialling the fax number and see if it rings out.. also check the rx reception mode is set to fax and not tel/fax or manual setting this is on the display it should have the date and to the right say auto or fax make sure it isnt displaying tel.. Letr me know if this helps
make sure the mode switch is set to "fax"... not "tel", or "fax/tel". I think the mode indicator is on the top of the fax machine and it's a light that should be on next to "fax"
CHECK THE CABLE IS IN THE CORRECT SOCKET AT THE BACK THE CABLE NEEDS TO BE PUT IN THE LINE SOCKET NOT THE TEL SOCKET AND ALSO MAKE SURE THE RX OR RECEIVE MODE IS SET TO FAX MODE IF IT IS JUST A FAX LINE OR TEL FAX MODE FOR USE WITH PHONE.. THE TROUBLE IS USUALY WHEN YOU ARE USING THE FAX ON A LINE USED FOR TEL USE AS WELL..__
Problem lies in your Receive Mode setting. If you don't have a dedicated phone line for the fax machine, you need to set it up for either Manual where you answer every call or Fax/Tel whereby the Fax machine determines if the incoming call is a fax or phone call. Instructions per Intellifax 4100 Manual.
Select a Receive Mode
Choose the mode that best suits your needs by pressing the Mode button
repeatedly until the FAX and FAX/TEL lights show the setting you want to use.
Manual
You must answer every call yourself.
The Brother machine must be started manually
to receive faxes.
Fax
For use with a dedicated fax line.
Every call is answered as a fax.
Fax/Tel
For receiving fax and voice calls on one line.
The FAX answers every call and receives a fax or
double rings for you to pick up a voice call.
TAD
For use with an answering device.
The TAD answers every call and stores voice messages.
Fax messages are printed.
if the fax is connected to the same line and you have a phone connected to the fax you need to make sure you connect the line from the socket at wall to the correct socket on the fax you can check this by looking at the point the line is connected on fax there should be two connectors one says line and one says tel.. the line in goes to the line socket and your telephone goes into the tel socket.. if you have them the other way round it cant connect properly..on the front display panel make sure you have it set to the auto setting or tel fax mode for receive.. if you have it to auto it will check the incoming call if it is a fax it will send it through if not it will ring till you answer.. if set to tel/fax mode when it rings you will have to answer the phone and manually press start if you hear it is a fax.. Good luck A
