Re: Lid/Top Loose

I have a Tecra M2 S630 and was able to fix my left hinge by removing it and drilling out the rivet and replacing it with a 6-32x1/4 inch machine screw and a nut. Total cost was $4 for a package of nuts and screws from Radio Shack.

Re: Lid/Top Loose

Hello Thor,

Could you please post a picture of your laptop lid joints( Hinges ) so i can have a look at the problem and accordingly suggest a solution? Most of Toshiba's Lid Problems are due to damaged Hinges or Cracked Lid Covers near the Hinges

D520: 2 lines across the screen. The lines disappear if you flex the lid, suggesting something loose or cracked inside. How do I open the lid?

to open the lid you need to remove the rubber stops to access the screws.
once the screws have been removed you can gently remove the bezel (the plastic suround).
you can now access the screws on the side of the screen to release the screen from the hinges.
you can now bring the screen a little forward the access the video cable.
Once here make sure the video cable is secure.
Honestly !! I dont believe this will solve your problem as most times when lines appear on the screen, it usally indicates the screen is on the way out

Loose Monitor on a HP Pavilion ZV6233nr Laptop

It seems that some screw that was loose is now totally out of socket. The latch assembly might be disbalanced due to that. To me it doesn't seem to be a broken latch.

Top of my new laptop won't open Help

If you have the Acer 5570 model, there are two latches on the on either side and I believe they both have to be moved together to open the lid. Move the slides to the right and the lid should open. If they don't and if perhaps a latch has broken from the release, try taking a credit card and swiping left to right you might be able to unlatch the catch.

You do not need to replace the hinges, however your need to remove the font panels of the screen and laptop to remove the hinges. You will see that the pin that connects the top part of the hinge to the bottom part of the hinges has over time moved out of alignment. With pliers and a hammer manipulate the hinge pin so that it is now flush with the hinge itself. You will see that the hinge will then become tight. Then just reinstall the hinge. I just did this and I know it works.

Sony VGN AR630

If the lid has a small slack and then is firmer again when the lid/screen is in another position, then the hinge mounting screws is most likely loose and the mounting screws needs to be tighten.
If the hinges are loose no matter what the position of the lid/screen is in then, they need to be replaced, there is no adjustment to tighten the hinges.

Display fails when moving the lid

It sounds like the display cable might be loose. You can attempt to press down on the keyboard directly which may tighten the cable, however this may not always work depending on the location of the cable. You may need to contact the manufacturer to have them send a field tech to tighten the display cable.

The lap top computer screen is loose

Yes, the bushings tend to wear out over tme and use. Options are either replacement of the lid ($$) or laptop ($$$). Which course you decide on is up to you.

HP Compaq nx9030: screen ON only in to lid position

One of two things.
Either your inverter gets unpluged (therefore it isn't plugged in correctly in the lappy) unless it's moved to a certain position (so don't shake your lappy or else you might see nothing), those being positions where theres slight pressure on the connector, even though it's loose or unplugged (POSSIBLY faulty, but most likely not, if it turns out it is, other than resoldering it, you'll need to return it for a fixing up.)
The switch that turns your screen off when the lappy closes is faulty (if it's located near the back of your laptop, aka. under the lappy's LCD bezel.

Opening it up and unpluging and pluging in the inverter is probably what the solution is. A tech might do it for free if you're nice (or you could do it yourself, don't loose any screws :) )

Hopefully it is just a loose connection and isn't a big deal at all to fix.

Stay Spicy and Happy Lappying!! :) Don't forget to rate!! :)
