Hello,

I've good news for you, you can get the software right now and its completely free.

Open this HP page and select the right printer from the ones listed.

After you have selected the right machine from the list, you will get a list of options, one of them being "Software & Driver downloads" Click on it.
Next you are asked to select the version of Windows used in your computer, If you are unsure what version your computer has. Hold down the windows LOGO button (windows key) and press R, then let go off R and the windows key. You will get a small run prompt on your screen.

Write " Winver " into the run prompt (without quotes) and click OK or press enter.

The small window will give you the details about your windows version on the top banner, most likely Windows XP Home or professional.

Pick the appropriate choise from the HP page and then look for the "full feature software download" This includes everything the CD has.

After downloading install the software and plug in the printer when asked, your good to go.
