Question about Samsung SpinPoint P80 SP0802N 80 GB Hard Drive
I have a 160 MEG Samsung SpinPoint hard disk drive SP1604N
S/N : S013710H808027.
LBA 312 581 808 160 PAL0
It is fitted in an external case so that I can use it for my Home computer and My works computer. I also have a second external Hard drive.
The power connection is the same for both drives. (But not the same voltage.)
The wrong power lead was attached to the Samsung drive and Tthe circuit board now has a fried chip.
There are one or two files that I would dearly like to retrieve from the drive as well as bring the Hard drive back into use.
Is it possible to buy a replacement Circuit board.
Try ebay with the same model number. You can transfer the circuit boards, retrieve the data, then you have a spare backup. Otherwise you can try to identify the component and check if digikey or mouser has a replacement. Sometimes if you're lucky the component is a bias diode that is designed to burn out with reversed power. Sometimes the visible damage may not be the only damage and other parts have fried. Touch a grounded object (like the case of your computer that's plugged in) before touching the components, and retouch it frequently, or wear static dissipative wrist strap

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test or replace all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
