New motherboard with old peripherals - will they work

I've decided to replace the motherboard in my old HP Pavilion xt926 in order to get a better CPU and more RAM. I'm looking for one that will fullfil my needs now but is upgradeable in the future. It has to be a micro ATX 244mmX244mm.
In order to spread the cost of upgrading I want to keep my old peripherals and replace them one at a time, but I'm not sure if they will work with the new motherboard. For example: - My Hard drive is a sony CRX200AD. It uses ATAPI (EIDE compliant) interface. The new motherboards I'm looking have an IDE controller and have one IDE slot which is ultra ATA/133 (ATA-7). Will My hard drive work?

Yes it will is the short answer.

Were I in your shoes I would look at three things at once to give you better options along the road.

First. A better case with a decently rated power supply

Reason is to give you more space to add items (extra hard drives rom drives better video card and a whole lot of other benefits later

Two. A motherboard that has many ram AND io (pci pci-e etc)
slots as possible within your budget.

Reason as for case but also expandability with regard memory and video.

Three. An intel cpu.

Reason durability, compatibility, and all round long term reliability.

I know there are those that might disagree with 3. but in my experience I have had less issues with intel in business environments than AMD

HP Pavilion A200n (DF209A#ABA) PC Desktop best upgrades

Your motherboard is limited by it's 400 fsb. The fastest CPU that will work in it is a 2.8Ghz 400fsb northwood chip. You can upgrade the memory to 1GB of pc2100 ddr ram. As for changing out the motherboard, don't do it. The front panel connections will likely never correct correctly with a new motherboard.

Hardware conflict blue screen

I bought a used computer that stopped working all the time. I installed new OS, same problem. It was the CPU that was overheating. The thermal paste under the CPU was dried and crusty. New paste cured it.

On yours, check for dust build up and feel if any components are too hot. Also reinstall all drivers for your motherboard, get the newest ones from your mo-bo mfr. web site.

Replaced motherboard and now fans are loud and fast

Check for proper connection, also check bios speed on fans and make sure heat sink is correctly installed... side note you have fresh item's and higher power faster speed... if there is a controller on fans lower them.

Recently when I woke my computer from sleep mode it started beeping; one long beep lasting about 15 seconds followed by a pause of 10 seconds. The beep/pause cycle repeats indefinitely. According to...

The only way to rule one out is to get another motherboard or another processor that will work in the motherboard. With as old as your hardware currently is, it is not worth replacing the parts and you would be better off just getting a new computer. If you need help deciding on what computer to get, feel free to leave another comment and I would be more than willing to help you out.

HP Pavilion Media Center a1510 PC desktop, one long beep pause and one long beep keeps repeating, fans and lights working. Is it worth fixing?

One beep means a problem with your processor (CPU). You can try to reset it (there is(are) clip(s) on the side that hold it down to the socket). Unplug everything from your computer before opening. You may need to remove the heat sink on top of the CPU; get some thermal paste to put on the CPU before you replace it. Lift up the clip, make sure the CPU is correctly oriented (one corner is marked) and press it back down. Spread new thermal paste and replace the CPU cooler. Try rebooting the computer. If that doesn't work, you should try a new CPU - match to the socket on the motherboard. Unfortunately, if you use Windows, you will probably need to contact them to ensure that the OS key is valid.

I hope this helps.

(if your computer is really old or was cheap, replacing it with a new machine may be easier. Pull the old hard drive and either install it as a slave drive in the new machine or use a hard drive enclosure (IDE or SATA to USB or eSATA if that is on the new machine), a hard drive dock (SATA) or a IDE/SATA/USB dongle (that lets you connect a bare drive out in the open to the USB port) to get your data from the old computer.)

Will new micro atx boards fit inside of a hp 4550z case?

Yes i think you will be ok as i can see and your old motherboard is microatx but i strongly recommend you to change case because is not only about motherboard. You will need and better and new power supply and if you want to build a good system with air flow for not overheating your new cpu and other hardware i strongly recommend you to change and chassis!!You can find a "nice" case with $50-$70 bucks if you dont want to spend money on case, but you will need power supply for sure

My M7V-ML motherboard will not take anymore RAMM even with a larger CPU. I want to keep all my existing peripherals. PLease recommend a motherboard that will fit in my HP Pavilion xt926 computer.

Any ATX motherboard will fit, but considering the age of the PC, any motherboard you get will be far more advanced and you will have to purchase new ram and processor. You can check out Asus's website for some inexpensive motherboards. As far as the peripherals go, as long as they are PCI, you can move them over.

Toshiba Satellite A10

I could be wrong, but most laptops have all the peripherals intergraded into the motherboard in order to get such a slim profile all on one board. The sound card, video card, network card, and all are non removable and non replaceable. When it comes time to upgrade, then you'll have to start looking for another laptop. Sometimes though, Toshiba will have driver upgrades on their website for new features and fixes.
