Re: Download USB 2.0 device drivers for windows 98s sport...

Thinkpad 390X doesn't have usb 2.0 capability.
You could get a pcmcia usb 2.0 adapter
Good luck

Usb not working, software ok,works with pci card adapter

A) What makes you think the 'software' is OK? Windows may have lost the address to the DRIVERS; you want to believe Windows? Lol!
(Device Manager)

B) I would go to Device Manager, (Start > Right-click on My Computer > Left-click on Properties > Left-click on Hardware tab > Left-click on Device Manager)

Then click on the + sign to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Right-click; ONE AT A TIME, on each Intel USB Host Controller.

(Number/letters after each one.
Examples from mine;
1) Intel (R) 8280 1FB/FBM USB Universal Host controller - 2658
2) Intel........................................................................ - 2659
3) Intel........................................................................ - 265A
4) Intel........................................................................ - 265B
5) Intel........................................................................ - 265C

The Southbridge chip part number is Intel 82801FB { ICH6 }
Northbridge chip part number is Intel 915G )

Then left-click on -> Uninstall.

(Yes, a 'squawk box' will come up, "Warning you are about to uninstall this device". Whatever Windows! Click on OK )

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen; and restart the computer.
(Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart)

When Windows has fully loaded again, you should see a 'pop-up' out of the system tray, "Found new hardware."
Plus perhaps another one, "Found USB Host controller XXXX"

Now go back to Device Manager, USB Host controllers, and do the same on the second one listed. Then go back, and perform on all USB Host controllers -> One At A Time.
(xxxx stands for the number/letter code )

You may also want to download, AND install the driver for the Chipset,

When I state download, I mean to -> Save File, Then DOUBLE-click right on the file name, AND install it.

Why Chipset driver?

Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

The motherboard chipset is what is indicated by the term - Chipset, on the drivers download page.

The motherboard chipset design used for your laptop, consists of a Northbridge chip, and a Southbridge chip,

[ CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term used is Microprocessor, or simply Processor for short.
THIS is why a personal computer, should -> NOT be referred to as a 'CPU'. Shows ignorance, and is confusing ]

The Northbridge chip handles the Faster capabilities of a computer.
Processor, Ram Memory, and HIGH-speed graphics.

AGP, and PCI-Express are HIGH-speed graphics technology.

Integrated Graphics, and inserting a graphics card into a PCI slot; is NOT high-speed graphics.

The Southbridge chip handles the Slower capabilities of a computer.

1) Anything connected to the PCI bus. (One example is a graphics card inserted into a PCI slot, or Integrated Graphics )

2) Anything connected to the IDE bus.
3) Anything connected to the SATA bus
4) Anything connected to the USB bus
5) Ethernet
6) Audio (Sound)

Primer over.

The Southbridge chip is part of the -> Chipset

My laptop is saying Check Cable Connection!

What this means is that it has "lost" the windows installation. Possibly corrupted and possibly a virus
The message you are getting is due to the laptop looking for an alternative boot device, the PXE refes to network boot, the last in the boot order.

What you need to do is obtain a copy of the Windows disc, borrow a USB CD Drive and re-install. When getting to the install windows prompt, let it "find " the windows installation and REPAIR

If you do not have a USB device, the following is your only other option:

  1. You will need the following: Copy of a windows installtion disc; usb pendrive of 2 gb, probably aslo a usb floppy drive and floppy disc.
  2. You will also need this:

  1. Now you need to borrow a computer to download the above software and visit the Acer download page to get the SATA drivers. Extract these to a floppy drive and make sure you have the TEXTMODE drivers!
  2. Run win to flash and extract the windows files from the cd, it will guide you through the process of making a BOOT Usb.
  3. Set laptop bios to boot from USB
  4. When prompted (have the floppy usb drive plugged in), at F6 press to detect the SATA drivers on teh floppy
  5. Follow instructions and you should have windows up and running again

USB driver is not working

Firstly, you should check up when you attach a device to your computer, if there is an error message showing up at the right bottom of the desktop which says "USB Device Not Recognized". If so, you must haven't install the driver of the device properly or the driver is damaged.

Then you will need to download a new one from the website of the manufacturer and install it on your PC. Then the hardware will be recognized by Windows system and be able to work.
If there is no error message "USB Device Not Recognized" showing up, that means your USB driver is damaged or outdated. USB driver is used for detecting USB devices. Without it, Windows system will not be able to detect and recognize any USB hardware. The only way to solve the problem is to install a new USB 2.0 driver for your computer.

No matter which issue it is, the problem always result from outdated or damaged device drivers. To solve and avoid hardware not working problems is to update the drivers regularly. Because all drivers have bugs more or less and lead to a lot of unexpected computer errors. Chipset manufacturers, like NVIDIA, ATI, Intel and so on, update and release new drivers for their products.

So you just need to download and install new ones for your computer.

go to the website and locate where you can download drivers/software, once you have done that look for the specific area and download the driver, or you can go to device manager and make sure the driver is working properly

How to install usb inf for windows 7 ?

Windows 7, by default, should have microsoft tested and approved driver inf's for all intel usb controllers. If you are having trouble installing drivers for windows 7, then contact microsoft. MS has tons of drivers built in to 7, and the d610 uses either the intel chipset or the broadcom chipset, and they are generic USB hubs. You can try using the "generic" usb driver when prompted, and that should work. I think the usb on a 610 is version 2.0, but it may yet be 1.1. 1.1 is rather old though, and went out with the pentium 3. Most p4's have 2.0 now, and should not be a big issue. If you call Dell, or check the dell site, you can see the usb chipset mfr for that chipset, then, contact the chip mfr (such as intel) and see if they have downloadable 7 drivers.

Wireless card not functioning/disabled after loading XP in a Compaq Presario C700T CTO Notebook PC

The wireless is not going to turn on and off via the switch properly until we get the drivers loaded to make it work. There are 3 possible types of wireless card it could be, so we have to find out the exact model number of your system. On the bottom there should be a label that has a P/N or part number listed. what are those numbers. Here's an example of the label:

we need the info listed for #1, #2 and #3. Then we should be able to determine which adapter you have, and then we can (hopefully) find some Windows XP drivers for you.
