Re: mv730i issue

Since neither the specs nor the website mention widescsreen recording, I think it's a safe bet that it just shoots in 4:3.

The led screen is not working all the index comes up but when you record the screen is blank it records the sounds but no picture its the same through the view finder canon mv730i

This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

I cannot record, in the corner where it says record, standby, it flashes the number C:31:40 I have a new TDK Hi 8 120 and it keeps flashing. Please help, thank

when problem occur while cam is operating, the self-diagnosis function starts working, and may display the service mode display code. in your case, C:31:40, pertains to a part of the cam tape compartment mechanism called the drum that doesn't start up. issues could prevent you from recording, playing back tapes, rewinding or fas forwarding. t/s steps are: try diff tapes esp. w/prev recordings, reset cam (press reset button while cam is on, located just below the menu button, in the panel where the lcd screen goes to), power reset (remove batt and ac adapter and leave cam w/ any power source for at least a minute). if issue persists, unit will require repair. hope this helps.tnx:)

How do i make this product 16:9? it seems to not let me.

See Page 39 of the Online Manual - link below
Goto Camera Menu> Camera Setup > 16:9 > On/Off Make sure you are in camera Mode - see page 46 - modes 16:9 can be used in See also page 77, for details of how 16:9 can be set and used - see below
  • The 16:9 mode is an electronically processed effect.
  • The 16:9 mode cannot be selected in the Easy Recording mode.
  • The multi-image screen cannot be used when the 16:9 format is selected.
  • Simultaneous recording on a memory card cannot be used when the 16:9 format is selected.
  • If you play back a 16:9 recording on a normal TV, the image appears vertically “squashed” (compressed).

When you record, it says on the screen " eject tape"

You could try to clean the video head with a cleaning tape. But more likely there is a problem with the mechanics :( (You could also check it this also happens with another tape.)

Record button doesn't function

You may want to check the record lockout safety switch located on the tape. This button can get moved by accident and the camera will refuse to record on that tape. Also, be sure the camera is in "video" mode, not "photo" mode. Some of Canons camcorders have a digital still camera mode which stops the camcorder from functioning because the photos are being recorded to a memory card and not your tape, please check this swithc as well. Good luck. Joe Weibel
