Re: motherboar dproblem

The CMOS battery & jumper will be placed below the touchpad buttons to view these you need to open entire laptop.

please open this part if you are good in laptop trounble shooting.
or else you can log a complaint to IBM support 1800-425-6666 (india) they will take care.

if u did some small mistalk laptop will not boot

I need to rest password in bios

Removing the RTC battery and leaving it uninstalled for 5 or more minutes causes all passwords and CMOS settings to be cleared. BIOS password can be removed by temporarily disconnecting/ removing the RTC/ CMOS (Coin-cell) battery from the motherboard.
Disconnect the coin-cell battery from the system board and it will reset the BIOS to its default setting and the password would be gone.
Please Refer to Page 29, 106 & 79 of the REPAIR MANUAL IBM T40 for Battery removal, keyboard removal and RTC battery removal instructions.
The Backup Battery (RTC, CMOS) is located under the keyboard. So you have to remove the keyboard to access the battery. The above Manual from IBM shows the exact method/ instructions and pictures for laptop dis-assembly for the purpose.
If you are comfortable with working inside such electronics, you can't do it yourself, or else you may seek help from local laptop service professional.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

I forgot the master BIOS password. IBM thinkpad 2628. There`s no start possible. Additional I get several error information: Error 271 Ceck date and time settings Error 251 System CMOS checksumbad- default...

disconnect the intal cmos battery, there may be a jumper near by, j1 or something like unconnect the jumper, whilst the cmos battery is disconnected switch on the laptop, then let the post screen load, switch off, re-connect the cmos battery and re-enable the jumper, switch on, should work fine now, if you don't see the jumper, you won't be able to reset the bios password, refer to a service manual for your laptop model for the location of j1.

ThinkPad 2373 Not able to Switch on Power

The battery is on the bottom of the computer and it should have a symbol like a battery. There will also be a spring-loaded lock you have to hold in a certain position to get the battery out. The lock will have two symbols on it, a closed padlock to indicate the locked position and an open one to indicate the unlocked position. Good luck and please rate.

Sounds like a non-IBM network card is installed. Remove the card and reboot your laptop.

I'm trying to clear the bios password on my girlfreinds thinkpad t40.... I've removed the cmos battery and was going to leave it out for an hour or so ....... will this work?

An easier solution is to use a backdoor password for your laptops' model to clear out the bios password. For IBM, the backdoor password is merlin

Jumper settings

There is no jumper settings, it is just a small bridge aside the bios Chip. you bridge the two pins and power to reset cmos.

A much easier way is removing the Cmos coin shaped battery from motherboar for few seconds, and put it back, this will reset Cmos the same .

get to the mainboard
there is a jumper near the cmos battery usually shows the
word (jbat) near it , try to change its position for some
seconds while power is off , this way will clear cmos and set the
mainboard bios to default settings.
start the system hit delete or F2 to enter setup then exit saving changes.
