I am also having this stupid problem. I get the "Unable to start operation" error whenever I try to play PS3 games or sometimes it just won't load and start. Blu-ray movies don't work as well but dvds and PS1 games still work for the most part. I've had mine for about 1yr and 5mos so this is unacceptable. Paying over $400 for something to last this long should not be something that we allow, no matter how much we love Playstation. Especially having to pay over $150 to have Sony repair it when it is a common problem and faulty equipment on their part. This is BS... very upsetting
The laser is weak or the drive is bad and that is a common problem with the ps3. I agree that its frustrating that a company puts out a product that is not quality. You should be able to find a laser (if you can get into your ps3 drive and replace it, if your handy), or its easier to replace the drive, you can find them on Ebay all the time.
