It only shows a line in the middle of the screen (by 2 users)

iMac G5, 1.8, Leopard OS firewire. It has power, shows up in system profiler but doesn't product a picture. I remember hearing that these units were fragile. Could it be broken?

reinstalled software but still no picture after installing the new leopard
