I can hear modem dialing out, but it continues to say ''no dial tone''. This is a brand new modem, that was replaced by Dell, after a lightning strike.
Do this by going to control panel / phone and modem options / click the modem tab and if there is more than one modem select the one you wish to test. Click properties then when the new window opens click diagnostic. then query modem after a few moments it should show the low level modem information in the box.
Any problems with diagnostics mean there is an issue.
Also check in your hardware list to make sure there is no hardware with exclamation marks. If so fix those first
It may be as simple as going to the dell support page and downloading a new driver from there. if its lists ok and its not a driver then check that it is properly seated in the slot. if its still not working there may be an issue with the modem itself
