Question about EnGenius EOC-3220 (EOC3220)

2 Answers

Needs reset i have 2 eoc-3220 ext. at a small hotel , the devices configured as AP's, no security, channels set to AUTO and basically the default settings.. wired POE to a DSL 2Wire modem/router.. there are 2 networks.. the one for the guests which runs thru a Guestgate Internet Device for a captive portal to make it easy on guests to connect..a simple password and no WEP configuring.. the other network is private with seperate SSID and it is WEP protected.. lately , almost every day i have to reset the dsl router and guestgate because guests complain that they cannot log on to the internet as it just sits there trying to acquire an ip address.. if i reset router/guestgate, then it connects very fast and well.. i have this problem in more than one site where i need to reset modems routers etc.. can any one give me a clue as to what might be causing this? the kicker is that the private network never has a problem, it is always accessible but it is set on the 2WIRE modem/router and not the access points.. this tells me its the EOC-3220 EXT's or the guestgate device.. any help would be greatly appreciated.. thank you jeff bunk

We have the same problem with several different brands of wi-fi routers. One suggestion is that the router is running out of DHCP addresses, indeed the belkin brand does say in the manual the leases are permanent and there are only 50 allowed. However, other brands such as the Linksys and netgear have a finite lease period. So this may or may not be the problem.

I want to reset using RS323 port , i forgot its ip adress

Hi

You can reset the device through RS232 port then please follow the below steps.

You need a laptop with Console port and a console cable for EOC-8610 EXT, You really dont need the IP address if you want to do it via console (RS232) interface.

1. Connect the console cable one end to EOC-8610 EXT RS232 port and other end to Laptop serial port.
2. Open Hyper terminal and select com-port option and then provide the username and password for the device management.
3. Go inside the system menu and select Reset Factory default.

Remember if u set to load the factory default settings, the device will loose its config and will boot up with factory default configuration.

How do I get into my engenuis eco-3220? Someone messed with the ip address and I cant figure it out at all...or it will let me ping then not let me ping...going crazy

There is no reset button on this model. To forcibly regain control of the configuration, you need a USB to serial cable, possibly a null modem adapter (depending on the serial cable), and a serial communication program like HyperTerminal or ZTerm for the Mac.
The manufacturer has incomprehensibly removed the detailed reset instructions from their website, but they can be found here:

Look for the section titled "How do I reset the EOC-3220 / EOC-3220 EXT / EOC-3220+ back to factory default settings? "

Try address 192.168.1.1 in most cases this is default IP for the routers.

Problem using 2nd hand AP senao EOC3220 EXT

You can use this unit either as an access point, to provide wireless access to a network you already have, or as a bridge, to access a remote wireless network someone else has.
Note that you own the EXT model, meaning that you have to attach your own antenna to the connector before it will function. There is no internal antenna on this model.

There no connection betwen my PC and eoc-322o

I have NO EXPERIENCE with this equipment; but have researched this to some degree on the internet. If you are willing to experiment with me we may both learn something. First thing I learned is the difference between ad hoc and infrastructure networks. I have a feeling the default for most wireless routers and wireless adapters is an infrastructure approach. From reading the EEOC-3220 documentation its default is called bridge mode which is an ad hoc network. (this would seem to require reconfiguring your wireless adapter whenever you move from indoors to outdoors -- not desirable.) This can be changed to an infrastructure network by configuring it as an access point which also appears to allow configuration of additional security options including WEP or WPA encryption and MAC checking and could allow hiding the SSID if desired -- all of which apparently could and should match your indoor wireless router. The preferable configuration for the EOC-3220 would be to set an IP address statically (dynamic may be possible) to one valid for the indoor wireless routers subnet and not already used in your indoor wireless router's subnet and disable DHCP on the EOC-3220 and allow your indoor network to control DHCP for the outdoor segment. From what I can tell this configuration should allow the two wireless devices to attach to your PC in a seamless or transparent manner.

AP Mode Problems

Probably you have to learn that there are various people looking for an access of the internet through your facilities. Anyway, inorder to solve your problem these are the following recommendation I made just for you. Hope this will be helpful.

PHASE I
1.) How do I reset the EOC-3220 / EOC-3220 EXT / EOC-3220+ back to factory default settings? An RS-232 null modem serial cable is required for this procedure.
(where to buy it : http://www.keenansystems.com/store/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3&products_id=221)

1. Connect the EOC-3220 to your computer with a null modem serial cable.

2. Start a HyperTerminal session: Click Start and then select Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> HyperTerminal.

3. After the HyperTerminal window appears:
a. Give this new connection a name. Ex: EOC-3220.
b. Select correct COM port. Ex:COM1.
c. Set baud rate as "38400", data bits "8", parity "none", stop bits "1", and flow control as "None". Then press “OK” to bring up the HyperTerminal window.

4. Wait until the "#" is displayed in the HyperTerminal window.

5. Type "flash reset", then hit enter.

6. Type "reboot", then hit enter. After the device reboots, all settings will be at factory default.

Phase II

1.) Since that you already reseted the AP you need to use the default IP which is 192.168.1.1 user: admin password: admin

2.) Make it sure you need to use different IP such as 72.10.251.xxx and the subnet: 255.255.255.xxx

3.) The idea of configuration in come from your own desire which was no body can no longer try to match your network IP so that there will be no body access your AP anymore without your knowledge.

4.) You need to make you SSID invisible to everyone inorder no body no longer able to reach your SSID by setting up basic setting which is transparent to everyone.

5) And lastly change the default user and password of your AP.

Good Luck
