my samsung s700 lens will not open all the way when camera turned on. seems to be skipping a gear or partially broken gear drive. need to know how to take the lens apart for possible easy fix. maybe exploded view of camera. or maintenance manual. need to take it apart for fix.

same issue. camera is frozen in the off position with the lens open, regardless of battery type or power. the light blinks while the power or play button is held, but then it makes a light click sound and switches off.

same problem, but it only started doing this a few months ago, now the lens is completely frozen all the time. I also think it may be a gear problem inside the lens mechanism, but dont know why this would happen after a year or two usage, and how to fix it

The beeping sound means that the camera has low battery capacity. the lens is stuck out because there is incorrect battery connection. there is an option on the camera setting for the battery type. try this one:
-turn the camera on
-click on Menu button
-select options using left/right, up/down button
-select Set up 2
-Select Battery type
-Select Alkaline for non-rechargable
or Ni-MH for rechargable
-click OK button

this setting should be done when using camera for the first time and whenever you are switching battery types, from rechargable to non-rechargable and vice versa.

I had this same problem, and all i did was pop out the SD card, and tried turning it on without it in there.  It powered up just fine.  I then replaced the SD card and all was well.  Possibly a problem with teh SD card.

Wont take a photo - wont focus

Assuming it is not a new camera and you do not have it set to manual mode and you know how to operate it appropriately - it could be a broken lens, dirty contacts, frozen firmware, or broken camera. First try turning your camera off - wait at least 15 seconds - then try a different lens. If the camera works with a different lens - then it is your lens. If you do not have a different lens, using a pencil eraser, clean the brass (gold color) contacts that can be found on the lens and camera where they connect. Make sure you do not get any eraser particles in the camera or you will have more problems. Once done turn your camera on. If it works it was dirty contacts. If it still does not work it could just be frozen firmware. Turn the camera off and remove the battery. Then replace the battery and turn the camera on. Remove the batter will get the camera to "reset." If it still does not try uploading the firmware again - preferable with an update if available. If it still does not work it is with the camera - sorry.

I dropped my camera and now the lens has frozen the lens open, and I can't do anything other then turn it on.

it needs to betaken back to a repairer. unfortunately it can cost a fortune for a new lens... it may cost less to buy a new camera... get an estimate of repair charges if you can

My camera - frozen?

Charging the batteries was the first move. Charge for at least 14 hours, and never shoot on low batteries. If the battery gives out while you are recording to memory, it can corrupt the storage media. The lens should work normally with a fully charged battery.
