Two questions. 1) can my amplifier over-power this sub; kicker L7 15 inch dual voice coil 1,000 watts RMS wired for 2 ohms? 2) is my amp too small for this sub-woofer? thank you for your time.

No, your not over powering your L7, your underpowering your subwoofer.
Your Kenwood is
500W x 1 at 4ohms [20-200kHz 0.5% THD]
900W x 1 at 2ohms [100Hz 1.1% THD]
Your L7 is:
Max Rec Amplifier Power (WATTS PEAK/RMS)* 2000/1000But its ok for your subwoofer, alteast your not giving it to much stress. But personaly, get another mono amplifier that would match your subwoofers rating.

I had Rockford Fosgate P300-1 Amplifier installed professionally with a Kicker CVR10 10 in Subwoofer in 2010 Comaro. My problem is that it causes an odor in my car. I took it back to Mothers window tint...

your kicker cvr subwoofer should have a max power of 1600 watts therefore your amp is not too much for the sub because the p300-1 amplifier has a max output of 900 watts. if anything your amp would not be enough to produce max power out of your subwoofer. your sub should not produce an odor unless you have your amplifier bridged which doubles the watts pushed to your subwoofer and if that is the case your amp is pushing 1800 watts to a 1600 watt sub which could be causing it to fry or possibly blow soon. other than that if thats not the case there shouldnt be a problem.

Ok . i have a pair of crossfire subwoofers, @

Your amplifier is 4 channel... and only 2 ohm stereo capable.

You will get the most power putting 1 subwoofer wired in parallel on each BRIDGED channel.

This will give you a 2 ohm stereo load.

Both + on 1 subwoofer to + terminal on amplifier bridged channel 1
Both - on 1 subwoofer to - terminal on amplifier bridged channel 1

Both + on 1 subwoofer to + terminal on amplifier bridged channel 2
Both - on 1 subwoofer to - terminal on amplifier bridged channel 2

Do you have ONE pair of 12's? Are they single voice coils? Dual? Bottom line, you are either over driving the amp (bass controll up high on the head unit (stereo), or the "load" on the amo is too low, meaning 2-12'" dual voice coils parreleled would give you a 1ohm load. Need more info, need to know what the bass is set on on your stereo, what size power wire to the amp, and I can wrap up the solution. ok?

My car stereo shuts off when i adjust the volume of my amplified subwoofer

your power suplly is either not good meaning the power cable is too small or you don not have enough ground. try adding a bigger cable for ground and power (dc).

My kicker amp turns off

It sounds like you may have the load impedance too low. How many voice coils per woofer? How many ohms is each coil? If you have DVC woofers, are the coils for each woofer wired in series or parallel? Are the speakers wired in series or parallel. Let me know if you need me to clarify anything.

IX704 kicker

There's a pretty good chance that your speaker load is too much or else your power coming in is not sufficiant. Be sure to check BOTH the battery and ground connections to be sure they are supplying enough power. If your speaker load is too much then correct that at once before you fry your amp. Good luck.
