Question about Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console

Playstation 2 is making high pitched noise every 15 seconds when using?

Was watching a dvd on the playstation and about 1/2 though the movie I noticed a high pitched noise every 15 seconds or so. It's sounds like the hard drive overworking itself maybe?

Mine is making a high pitched whining sound when it starts but when you play a game the high pitched sound goes away and the game audio is extremely distorted. I'll try a new cable but is this a laser problem do you think?

Eeek its either the laser noise which is dying(loosing stregnth) so go easy on it , or it can be the motor being unbalanced and slamming into the sides of the ps2. You can buy the laser on ebay with the laser number being on the underside of it

But if your worried sony can fix it .

  • Tech_PC Dec 09, 2007

Make sure you take general precaution of both discharging the ps2 and yourself safely by removing teh power when on for the ps2 and touch a piece of metal to discharge yourself every 15min and dont wear a cotton shirt or perform this on carpet.

There's an intermittent high pitched noise from sharp aquos lc32 le600e

Sounds like a transformer or choke that has loose windings and they are resonating, you can pull the back and put small amounts of silicone on those components or replace the power board

How do I watch a movie?

You should be able to put the DVD in the tray and should automatically recognize it and go into the movie.
What type of media are you trying to watch. PS2's cannot play blu-ray movies.

I noticed an unusual high pitch sound which I traced back to the refrigerator. I then noticed that the front panel lights were flickering on and off and so was the external ice maker lid. I turned the...

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. First off the high pitched sound you heard was most likely ice build up on the evaporator so th evaporator fan blades were striking the ice. Now as for your shutting of the unit and staring right back up..... You need to wait 15 - 20 minutes of OFF time when ever there is a power interruption. What is happening now is that the compressor can not restart because the coolant pressures are to high. That 15 - 20 mins of off time will afford that pressure stabilization time.

What you really need to do is remove the freezer contents and place a fan blowing into the freezer compartment to manually defrost the freezer evaporator. (about 2 hours of floor fan time) This should get rid of the high pitched noise. Then.... restart the unit. It should restart.

I suspect that you have an automatic defrost problem is why you had the noise. The manual defrost will only get you 2 - 3 days of normal operation again before it once again starts the icing routine. I want to get this off now to get you started on the manual defrost. I will respond with a 2nd post about the defrost problem.

Your to do list...
1. unplug the unit.
2. Manual defrost with floor fan (2 hours of fan and water mess)
3. Restart the unit
4. Watch for next post about defrost.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.
Kelly

I have a PS2 Slim and it won't read discs. Every time I put a disc in it won't spin it will just go to the screen that says browser and system configuration. Please help me!!

Causes:

1. DVD has lots of scratches
2. Regional Settings
3. Incorrect DVD settings for PS2
4. No/Incorrect Disc

Remedy:

1. Clean your discs well and avoid incurring scratches. Place it in
its box after use.
2. DVDs have encoding. They are encoded by regions. Thus, you cannot
play region 2 DVDs on a US Playstation mainly because the US
Playstation 2 can only read DVD that are encoded in Region 1 or
those DVDs that are encoded for all regions. Again, US PS2 are
region 1 capable. Japanese PS2s are Region 2 Capable.
3. There are a number of settings for the DVD playback of your
PS2. First is the rating of the DVD. If you want to watch a
rated R movie, make sure your PS2 allows viewing of R movies.
You'll be setting this during the first time that you'll be
watching a DVD. It's just the same as real theaters. It is also
protected with password so you need the person who set it up
the first time in order to bypass the rating settings.
4. Put in a DVD first and make sure that it is a Movie. And,
check #2.

okay, are you saying you can't watch DvDs ? I would highly recomend not watching DvD's on PS2, especially HD movies. The PS2 does not have the hardrive to read most movies perfectly.

TV won't turn on, makes high-pitched clicking noise

Its a real good chance that the HOT (horizontal output tranistor) transistor is shorted if so the flyback trasformer may be bad also. the transformer will make a tick tick sound if it is trying to start.
