I reinstalled windowsxp and now get a driver not installed error - of course I don't have a disk and I can't figure out which driver to pick from the onboard list. Oh and the ethernet controler is incorporated into the mother board

Control Panel -->System --> Device Manager.
Find the device with the yellow question mark and right click and then update driver.
XP should have the drivers for it.
Hope this helps

you must be having motherboard disk with you. Insert it & install the network drivers in it. If you are not having disk, you can download the drivers from internet.

I would check out the Internet for the updated driver for the NIC in the suspect machine, download it on another machice, copy over with flash disk. Remove the driver, install the new driver, **** down, reboot. If there is nothing physically wrong with the machine and you just re-installed the OS, sounds like you have a corrupted device driver for you NIC.

My installation is stuck at 30%

  • Hey, Have to also make sure the wireless adapter is not plugged while installing (only when prompted to plug it in)
  • You can try downloading a NEW installer from the Linksys website. (maybe the cd is scratched?...) Here is a link to the Driver/installer, for your adapter. (This is a WindowsXP Driver)
  • Try installing the driver using that, and then plug in your wireless adapter when the setup program prompts for you to do so.
Report back if there are any more complications or issues that occur during the above process,

I'll be happy to assist you further.
I Hope This Helps.

One of two 3com pci gigabit ethernet cards is not working

If you have the driver disk that was distributed with the card , try reinstalling the card drivers first.

If the card is faulty, buy a new pci ethernet adapter and replace it, inserting the ethernet adapter into the pci slot.

After installing install drivers for the new card with the disk that will come with the card.

Ensure that you are logged in as administrator when you reinstall the drivers.

Router will not work in XP

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Might it be that when you reinstalled XP, some of the drivers were not installed automatically, more specifically, the Networking Card (either WiFi or wired LAN)?

Initially, pls confirm that the networking hardware/devices were correctly installed by going to your System Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager button, expand Network Adapters. There should be no yellow or red markings on the networking device.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Usb network adapter

you network adapter either is not installed or the OS recognized it as a "generic adapter" and apply an appropriate driver for the said hardware. this is good but sometimes the windows just apply the nearest driver close to what is you driver...

if you network adapter is brand new chances are that you still got the disk came with the package and just uninstall the window's xp driver and reinstall it. if you dont have the disk just look at the website of the said adapter.

solution:
if you are using windows xp
1. click control panel
2. click the icon "system"
3. at the hardware tab click the "device manager" and look for the network adapter branch
4. if you can see a network adapter installed right click it and click uninstall...
5. reboot and let them window automatically search and reinstall your adapter.
6. if you the windows don't automatically install it, go back to control panel and click "add hardware" and install the hardware manually

hope this help...
