Most of the time it runs only when the compressor is running. In other words compressor and fans will run together when the fridge thermostat ask for cold and stops together when thermostat is satisfied. In newer fridges some time inside fan (evaporator fan) might PERIODICALLY run without compressor to circulate little cool air to fridge compartment from freezer compartment.
Most frideges get all their cooling from the freezer. There will be a fan and duct in the back of the freezer that pushes cold air down into the fridge. If the duct is blocked with ice or the fan motor has quit. Your freezer will work fine but the fridge will barely cool at all. Check that the fan runs when the compressor is running, ( turn both temp knobs to the highest cooling and leave door open until comp. comes on). If the fan runs your duct is plugged. If not you need a new " Freezer Fan Motor". Most are simple to replace and cost around $100.00.
Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out thelast two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...
can you hear a humming sound coming from the back of the refrigerator, if so that means your compressor is running, if you are hearing a buzz or clicking sound your compressor is trying to start, you may need a compressor. Some whirlpools have a 5 year sealed system warranty that would cover the repair.
Hi jason;
Shall take it that you have a Side by Side setup? If so with rear cover off, when you start it does the cooling fan come on beside compressor? Also remove front grille and clean front condensor coils, full dust and hair all problems can happen. (like blocking of car radiator). Try these if fan doesn't work, replace.
the refrigerator has mullions simaler to the veins underneath your skin to aid in cooling .the first thing to check is the fan by the compressor is it running while the compressor is if so the next thing to inspect is the condensor coils usaly underneath the fridge or directly on the back of the fridge alot of times these get clogged with lint and or animal hairsimply unplug the fridge and gently brush off the lint and vacume.your feed back on the resolve for this issue would be gratly app.
Yes, only part that gets could is in the Freezer. If block by ice (usually) this will not allow the cold air to go into the ref., if so, defrost problem. Check amount of ice on coils in back of Freezer. Should only be a thin frosting.
hi thanks for the question i would check to see if the fan in your freezer is working that could be the problem make sure the back of the fridge is clean where the compressor is located also make sure no frost has built up in freezer thanks the appliance doc
Your fan in the freezer is wearing out. When your food in the freezer is blocking the air, the motor is working too hard. After years of using, it needs to be replaced. Get a repair man in to replace with a new parts. My Fridge/Freezer was totally broken and I found this out because the ice was melting. It got fixed and now no problem.
sounds as if your compressor cooling motor is out.....check it in the back on the bottom.....remove the cardboard cover and see if the fan is running...if its not and it is real hot in the compartment the fan will most likely have to be replaced
