Have you tried to connect your laptop to external monitor?
If you get normal picture on external monitor, then you need to replace LCD screen, but if you get same picture on external screen, then unfortunately you will need new motherboard, because graphics card is integrated to motherboard.

Bottom half of laptop screen is colors with white lines vertically. Was able to control by changing position of screen, no lnger able to do that. Thin k Pad Lenovo T60

Hi,

Try to hook up an external monitor just to check that it is not a problem with the video card of the laptop. Most likely the LCD cable is loose or the LCD inverter needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

I HAVE IBM R52 1860 MODEL LAPTOP, ONE THIN AND ONE BROD WHITE vertical line is coming on screen, while everything is fine on external monitor. give me all trouble shoot options please. thank you, manoj

The most likely cause for this will be that the Diodes that control those pixels have failed, in other words the laptop screen is broken and will need to most likely be replaced. This is a hardware problem not a software issue. As such I advise you check your warranty and if it is still in date contact your warranty providers. If your warranty is not still in date then I advise you take your laptop to your local computer repair shop and get them to check it over.

I HAVE VERTICAL LINES ON MY SCREEN

What is happening to your laptop is the power line connecting a row of pixels is failing so only partial colors are showing up causing the vertical lines. Usually screen replacement is the only answer to fix it. You can usually find replacement LCD on Ebay.

My IBM R52 laptop displays some vertical thin lines (red, green, blue, white, etc). I noticed this problem arises basically IBM R52 and R80 models. Some of my friends too are suffering from this problem and...

This sounds similar to a fault i had with an old dell laptop... very thin vertical lines running the length of the screen. Unfortunately it was an LCD problem, the screen was kaput replacing the screen solved the problem.

To test if it is an LCD fault, simply plug your laptop into an external monitor... if you get no lines on external monitor then its a faulty LCD screen.

Is that solution genuine enough for you?

IBM Thinkpad 18594AU exp R52 intel pentium M740:

Most PC Laptops have a function key that you use in conjunction with other keys (normally the function keys) to access special features. You can try using this key along with the monitor key (normally has a symbol of a monitor on the key) to see if you can activate the external monitor feature. If you can not locate the keys and it is Windows XP or newer, the display properties (accessed from the control panel) should have a setup for dual monitors and you may be able to enable it in there.

Blue line on the screen

Try hooking up an external monitor to the video adapter on your laptop. If the screen appears fine (no blue line) then your video card is good but you laptop's LCD monitor is bad. I would check eBay for a replacement. They are not too difficult to replace if you are somewhat mechanically inclined (can unscrew some screws and disconnect a wire plugged in the motherboard).

hope this helps! : )
