Question about Canon XL1S Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Can't select clear scan in menu Canon xl1s

Clear scan remains highlighted in blue in menu. I don't have any special features selected (that I am aware of). I have taken out and replaced both batteries hoping it would resset the XL1s to factory settings.

Any suggestions as to why I can't select clear scan?

Re: Can't select clear scan in menu Canon xl1s

You have to Be in [A] mode the first option after [off] then press EXP. Lock and keep pushing the shutter + or - button until the viewfinder displays CS where the shutter speed were at, now you can select clear scan in the menu. Note: it will only work in this mode and fashion.

Can anybody simply tell me my red recording button of xl1s does not work, what to do

If the lock feature isn't stopping it from engaging then there's a problem with the microswitch the resides behind the button or something to do with the camera's electronics.

If removing the battery for at least 60 minutes and any date/time battery the camera may use for just as long doesn't reset the camera your only option might be to send it in to Canon for service. The good news is Canon is usually very fast in their repairs.

How do I download videos from Canon Vixia HFR10 to my Mac?

If you have Final Cut (most versions can do this), File, Log and Transfer, (make sure your camera is on, connected via usb, and in the display mode), after files finished loading, highlight the files you want on your computer, and select add selection to que. TADA! I really hope this helps. If you don't have final cut, I'm sorry, but I do not know. :/

I have an Canon xl1s camcorder. It does not want to rewind dsv tape after recording.

Always make sure that your Battery is full charge, I usually blow soft air to clear the heads and any other small particles. use a new tape.., remember depending in how long and use of camera could make a difference in long lasting equiptment. Its possible that is time for the camera technician to come in the rescue. Call around for estimades in your camcorder repair and you may be suprise how competetive pricing is out there..

Pixels instea of clear picture

The problem is with the tape...Never rewind tape in the play mode for some reason it will screw it up.
And only use good tape such as...

Scrambled footage

if you are captureing through the fire wire port, it could be the port is bad. Just to make sure, see if you can get ahold of a "Blue Box" one of those analog to firewire converter boxes, and see if it comes out clear then. if it does then I am 100% sure that it is the firewire port.

No picture in rec mode, cam switches off in 10sec

Try using the Dummie Battery and connect that end to charger.
This way you will know that you don't have battery problems.

You can adjust the brightness or color of the LCD display as needed. 1. Set the POWER switch to CAMERA position. (In the PLAYER mode, you may only setup the LCD while the tape is playing.) 2. Open the LCD screen, and the LCD switches on. 3. Press the MENU button. 4. Turn the MENU DIAL so that VIEWER is highlighted and then press the ENTER button. 5. Turn the MENU DIAL so that LCD ADJUST is highlighted. 6. Press the ENTER button to enter the sub-menu. 7. Turn the MENU DIAL so that it highlights the menu item you want to adjust (BRIGHT SELECT, BRIGHT ADJUST, COLOR ADJUST). 8. Press the ENTER button again.
