Question about GE JE1860 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

GE JE1860 microwave won't turn off sometimes

Three year old GE JE1860 microwave that has recently started to not turn off intermittently. When it does this, you can open the door and it still "hums", though the turntable quits turning. Shut the door and it continues, and appears to be cooking when the door is closed because it burnt some kernels of corn that had been spilled in there. Opening and closing the door doesn't stop it, pressing cancel doesn't stop it, and we usually just try various things on the control panel until it shuts off. Seems once we can get it to start making the "normal" noises and the turntable turning, it will then shut off. I've tried unplugging it when it is doing this, leaving it unplugged for 10 minutes, and when I plugged it back in, it still did the same thing. It probably does this one out of ten times we use it, but there is no pattern.

HELP! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Have ge model je1860 turns on but when you hit cook nothing happens is it the turn table motor. i don't want to do trial and error on parts.naturally the fuse is good

I'll presume you can program it ( set the length of time you want to cook)
Does the timer count down?
Does the turntable ( if you have one) turn?
If everything else seems to work properly and it just doesn't cook more then likely the magnetron is bad

Wont turn on and no display showing no light on inside. Its plugged in and circut breaker has been checked. 8 Years old

It may be either the line fuse or the magnetron's thermostat.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or elsewhere, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

How do I replace the magnetron in my GE JE1860?

Considering the cost to have the microwave repaired: both labor and parts, it is more economical to purchase a new one unless it is still under warranty.

Microwave not working

faulty relay or solder joint on the power module, but a bad door switch is most common.

GE # JE 1860WH AH900849 not heating

hi Kathrine,

It sounds like the magnetron may be bad, if this is the case it may still be under warranty. Check to see if it's in warranty if it is contact GE or the store you bought it from. If it is I would not recommend you repair yourself (very dangerous voltage, and a very expensive part)

JVM2050 Doesn't cook food sometimes

Not the magnetron if intermittent. Probably a bad smartboard. Easy to replace if you know the basic precautions to take.

Power surge

The high-voltage transformer being overloaded by something shorting it out. Either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Replace the capacitor and diode then if still not working, replace the magnatron. The magnatron is only affordable to do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!
