Coffee maker shuts off during brew cycle

Our two-year-old Cuisinart coffee maker shuts off two to three times during the brew cycle and must be turned back on each time to finish the cycle. I tried decalcifying with a vinegar solution, but that didn't work.

During the brew cycle, the coffee maker shuts down 2-3 times. It is about 3 years old and I have tried everything. Changing filter, running vinegar solution through it. Seems to work sometimes, but other times still shuts off.

Mine first started shutting off after it finished brewing - didn't do it every time though. This week it has started shutting off during the brewing process. This morning I had to turn it back on twice. Looks like this is a common issue with these coffee makers. Anyone have a solution??

Started making very loud noise during brew cycle and seemingly putting less water through, like something was making it work harder and do less work -- never did that before. Ran vinegar through per instruction manual, did not clear up the problem. The machine's almost 11 years old, but if we can fix it ourselves or cheaper than a new maker, we'd like to have it around a while longer.

I also had problem with it shutting off during brewing. I tried cleaning by running vinegar through it, which needs to be done periodically anyway, but that did not resolve the problem. I then tried the suggested solution of unplugging it for a half hour to reset the micro controller and that did it! May also need to set the auto shut off time to zero if unplugging alone doesn't fix it.

I to have been battling this same problem on and off for a couple of years, and have been trying to find out why it thinks it id done brewing. I have had some success but exactly what fixes it I don't know.
I called Cuisinart and they told me to change the water filter in it. This didn't work, but I did see some grounds and even a bean had gotten under the filter. I cleaned that out and it fixed it, that time. If you don't have a filter, shine a light down the water reservoir and make sure you don't see anything.
Other than that I do a bunch of cleaning cycles with, Brew Rite Cleaner, Whink Automatic Drip Coffeemaker Cleaner, and vinegar. Don't mix them, just follow the directions on each. Follow with a bunch of rinse cycles. I still don't know which one does the most to fix the problem. For all I know it could just be all of the rinse cycles.
Just keep trying, there is hope that you won't have to tend to your coffee maker forever.

I have had many coffee makers in the last few years and they all seem to develope this problem. I too have not figured out a 100% fix other than taking the maker back and recieving a new one.
I usually fall back on my 30 yr. old machine which doesnt have anything but a clock and a on/off button. It works just fine during the transition to a new one.

Unplug the coffee maker for about half an hour, then plug it back in. That will reset the microcontroller inside the coffee maker. This will eliminate the early shutdown problem.

Coffee maker shuts off too soon after brewing.

Hello FloydBob, The Cuisinart DCC-1200 has the ability to program the auto-off function that keeps your coffee warmer plate on after brewing is complete.

The unit lets you select the time increments from zero up to 4 hours.

See page 6 of the attached manual for the full instructions for reprogramming the coffee maker.

To program the Variable Auto Off:
1. Turn the FUNCTION KNOB to the “Auto Off”
position. Press and hold the “Hour” button
for 2 seconds. The clock display will start
blinking.
2. Program the coffeemaker to shut off from
zero to four hours after brew cycle is
finished by using the “Hour” and “Minute”
push-buttons.

I figured you might also like to have a complete instruction/owners manual so you can have access for any other questions you might have about your coffee maker, in the future.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

you need to run a few pots of straight white vinegar through the machine to clean out the lime build up in the tubes. the first time you do it, after it starts to pump the water, shut it off for a few hours and let the vinegar sit in the tubes. after doing this run a few pots of cold water through before making coffee.

Incomplete brew

Sometimes you have to do the decalcification two or three times. Then, monthly after that.

Cuisinart Coffeemaker Decalcification Process

Run 2 cups distilled white vinegar and 2 cups water through the system - brew it like it was regular coffee. Then run plain water through the coffemaker to rinse the vinegar out and make sure the decalcification was successful. Repeat as needed. Don't forget to remove the charcoal water filters first.

Coffee maker shuts off too quickly

It seems this coffeemaker insists on shutting itself off after 4 hours,
or whatever "auto-off" time you've programmed in. The only work-around I've found is to switch it to "Brew" and cycle the power switch off and on every time you pour a cup. That will start a new
4-hour timer cycle. Since the pot's still hot, it will go quickly to the
"brewing done" state and render 5 beeps.

Delayed brewing

The problem is in the sensor that tells the coffee maker when the brew cycle is complete. This is a heat sensor that's clipped to the heating element. The sensor gets overly sensitive and shuts things off too soon. Since schematics and parts aren't available for this unit, it's pretty much junk after it starts to fail. You can remove the sensor, but this creates a major fire hazard. My advice is to pick up a good percolator and forget the drip units. The Grind-N-Brew makes excellent coffee, but they barely last out the warranty and the cost of replacing them mounts up. I've gone through two (same problem with both) and it's no longer worth it to me.

Machine shuts off after beans are ground & sometimes when pot is 1/4 full

You have not missed anything. Unplugging for longer than 16 minutes (has 15-minute memory) is the only troubleshooting you can perform. Call Cuisinart to find out if you are still in warranty. Serial number is engraved onto the very bottom of the coffee maker - hard to read. All electronics have a failure rate. Cuisinart's is acceptably low, but their coffee makers are the least reliable of all their products. The basic problem with electronic coffee makers is that coffee makers produce high heat, and high heat kills electronics and melts plastic. At least Cuisinart has a 3-year warranty - higher than the industry standard.

Let me put it another way. All coffee makers have a high failure rate. As many Cuisinart coffee makers that break down, the non-Grind-and-Brews still have a 91 rating from Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports doesn't give ANYTHING a 91 rating. A lot break, but you probably won't fare much better by switching to a different brand. The problem with a Cuisinart breaking down is that an expensive unit broke down - you wouldn't be upset if your $15 Mr. Coffee broke every year. The law of averages is on your side - a 2nd Cuisinart will probably last longer.
