FROM THE OWNERS MANUAL: Installing the SIM Card If your SIM card was not preinstalled, you must install the SIM card before you can use iPhone.
Install the SIM card: 1 Insert the end of the SIM eject tool into the hole on the SIM tray. Press firmly and push it straight in until the tray pops out. If you don't have a SIM eject tool, you can use the end of a paper clip. 2 Pull out the SIM tray and place the SIM card in the tray. The angled corner of the SIM ensures that the card fits only the correct way in the tray. 3 With the tray aligned as shown, carefully replace the SIM tray containing the SIM card in iPhone.
The only thing that you must have is a SIM eject tool or simply a straightened paper clip or any pin-like object hard enough to push-open the SIM tray. BTW, this SIM eject tool came with the box when you bought your iPhone.
Here are the steps:
First, refer to the image below to locate the SIM card tray. To pull it out, you need to insert the SIM eject tool (or the paper clip) on the tiny hole on the top of the iPhone 3G or on the right-side of the iPhone 4. Push until the tray pops out.
NOTE: The tiny hole found on the top of the iPhone 4 is not for the SIM card tray, it is a microprhone. Please do not insert any thing in there.
Once the tray pops out, pull it out completely and replace the SIM with any SIM you want.
When you're putting it back make sure that the SIM carrier logo is facing the front of the iPhone. Don't force it if it get stuck, just pull it out again, and gently put it back.
Apple iPhone 4 uses a Micro SIM
which is 15 mm × 12 mm in size while the standard Mini SIM is 25 mm ×
15 mm in size. To insert a SIM in iPhone 4, follow the steps below:
Take a simple paper clip and make it straight.
Check the right side of your iPhone 4 to locate the SIM tray on the Right side of the iPhone.
Insert the pin into the small hole and push it slightly until the tray
pops-out. Now pull out the Sim card tray with your hands.
SIM card slot is in top of iPhone. From iPhone Manual:
If your SIM card was not preinstalled, you must install the SIM card before you can use iPhone.
Install the SIM card: 1 Insert the end of the SIM eject tool into the hole on the SIM tray. Press firmly and push it straight in until the tray pops out. If you don’t have a SIM eject tool, you can use the end of a paper clip.
2 Pull out the SIM tray and place the SIM card in the tray. The angled corner of the SIM ensures that the card fits only the correct way in the tray.
3 With the tray aligned as shown, carefully replace the SIM tray containing the SIM card in iPhone.
Use the supplied tool or a straightened out paper clip to eject the sim tray in the top of the phone. There is a tiny round hole in the top of the phone that you gently push the tool(or paper clip) into to eject the sim tray. Load your sim card and slide it back in and you're done!
