Question about Directv Plus DVR DTV Receiver / 100-Hours Video Recorder

Directv dvr The receiver will run for 14 minutes then will reboot. This happens over and over. Tried hard reset, cables etc no help

Unplug all the cables except the video out and the power cord. if i loads and stays on after the 14 min. there is a cabling or dish issue. if it turns off the dvr is bad

DVR keeps restarting / rebooting

Jay .. if you still have the receiver. heres what you do. reset the receiver and when the blue screen comes up saying "Hello your directv receiver is starting up" On your remote type in 0 2 4 6 8 .. then it should go to a screen saying "new software found" . Let it download the update.. That should fix the issue .. However if it doesn't then it could be the hard drive. The pcb board on them usually fries.. but that can be ordered too... let me know how this works... you can email me at

Directv dvr will not power on. The record light

Unplug the DVR for about 20 minutes and then plug it back in. If that doesn't work its probably time to contact DTV for a replacement.

Dvr stuck on ''receiving satellite info'' when reset.

When it's rebooting, on the first blue screen press 02468 on the remote. This will force a software update. If you have trouble getting it enter at the right time or you just want to make sure, just keep pressing 02468 until it goes to the update. It won't hurt any thing. Hope this helps.

My Directv DVR receiver will not stay on it is blinking yellow??

Unplug it from the power for about 30 minutes and then try again. If it still doesn't work I would call DirecTV and discuss getting it replaced.

one last thing you can do, if it doesnt work the dvr is dead. reset the dvr and wait for the hello screen and then the screen will go black. when it turns black, hold the down arrow (on the front of the dvr) and the record button for at least 5 secs. this will re-format the hard drive. if it doesnt work the dvr is dead

Power Issue?

unplug the satellite cables and restart the dvr. if the dvr powers up plug in the cables when u see searching for satellite.

Dvr recording skip sound

probably a dying hard drive, but could just be corruption, delete all effected recordings, monitor, if issue continues delete all recordings unplug receiver for 10 minutes, monitor new recordings if continues receiver may need to be replaced

Burning smell

unplug the receiver and call directv to send a new one. the dvr may have hard drive electrical issues that could lead to bigger problems

Have either of your tried unhooking the HDMI connector if you are using it and try component?

What software are you running on the unit. The HR20-700 and HR20-100 just got a software update that was going to fix this problem w/ the unplayable recordings.

If it is erasing your content that is a good sign of a defective hard drive. These units when they boot up (after a software update) check the hard drive. If they run into a problem (bad sector) they will foolishly erase the hard drive, thus erasing everything you have recorded. If this is your 4th unit, you may want to look at your environment as well (well ventilated, good connections, etc) I'm not saying it couldn't be the unit. It took directv 14 units to get 3 working, and since I've had 2 HR20-700 refurbs that were unstable and were quickly replaced.

It might be in your best interest to invest in an external drive solution for the HR20. I, however, would be calling customer retention and having a calm, but stern chat with them about this.
