These would be the drivers that allow your computer to interact with your gps unit. If you use it as a standalone unit, then you won't need them. If you plan on saving waypoints and tracks or prerouting yourself and then loading it to your gps, then you will need to install the usb drivers from your installation disk, or from the garmin site before connecting your gps to the usb cable from your computer. Once loaded, you should be able to communicate with your unit and up/down load information.
