Satellite p35 will not go to wireless

Might not have a wireless card installed ??

If your Toshiba Satellite notebook computer is equipped with a wireless Internet card, you can connect to a Wi-Fi access point by turning on the wireless switch on the side of the laptop.
However, the signal may not always be picked up by your wireless receiver; if that is the case, you will need to check your wireless-network settings and reconfigure the network connections manually.

Open the Network Settings program. Click on the Control Panel in your "Programs" bar and select "Network Settings."
This will give you options for modifying how you connect to the Internet.
Select "Connect to a Network" or "Show Network Status and Tasks."
Both selections will show you whether you are disconnected from the wireless network.

Select "Manage Network Connections."
This selection is located on the left side of the window; clicking on it will show you whether you are connected to a local area connection or wireless network connection.

Engage the wireless connection.
Turn your wireless switch to "On," then right-click on the wireless network connection.
Select "Connect/Disconnect."

Wait for the IP address acquisition.
It may take a few minutes for your Toshiba Satellite to pick up the signal and transmit your IP address.
When this is complete, you will see the word "Connected" next to the name of your wireless connection, and a series of bars that indicate signal strength.
Launch your favorite browser to access the Internet using the wireless connection.

My laptop is Lenovo G460, i just want to ask if when you say laptop is it understood to be wi-fi?

Hello. I understand that you are asking if all laptops come with wifi built in. Nowadays, just about all laptops have wifi built into them. If you are looking at an older laptop, check the specifications. You can also just post the model of the laptop you are looking at and we will be happy to check for you. Understand that just because the laptop has wifi, does not mean you can connect to internet unless you have a wireless network you can connect to.

Thanks for using Fixya!

I hooked up my D'link to modem and computer and connection is good. But i can't find it when i search on laptop wireless connection. I think you need i driver but i can't find one. Thank You

The Network and Sharing Center in Microsoft* Windows Vista* can be used to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If an Internet connection is not automatically made by the operating system, you may need to contact your access point (AP), broadband wireless router manufacturer, or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Set Up a Secure Wireless Connection to the Internet

These steps assume that your network adapter; AP or router; and cable, DSL or another type of modem have already been physically connected and configured. They allow you to create a new connection and configure it accordingly.

Follow these steps to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If a wireless profile does not exist, you will need to create a secure wireless profile before you can set up a wireless connection to the Internet.

1. Access the Network and Sharing Center.

2. Select Set up a connection or network.

3. Click Connect to the Internet.

4. Click Next.

5. Select Wireless. At this point, if the network(s) that are listed say that the network settings do not match the network requirements, as shown in Figure 1, create a secure wireless profile and then follow the steps again.

6. Select a network and click Connect. If you are not connected to the Internet, you may need to contact your AP/router manufacturer or ISP.

Access the Network and Sharing Center

To access the Network and Sharing Center, use one of the following methods:
  • Start » Control Panel » Network and Internet » Network and Sharing Center
  • Start » Network » Network and Sharing Center
  • Right-click the network system tray icon (the icon that displays two computer monitors) » Network and Sharing Center

I have just lost my connection with my wireless. Tells me it has been disconnected however I am able to pick it up with my other laptop?

Delete the wireless profile out of your computer. Click on the wireless icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Right click and choose View Available wireless networks. Click change the order of preferred networks. In the preferred networks area click on the wireless network and click remove. Now reboot the computer or disable wireless and enable wireless. Once that is complete try and connect to your network. If this doesnt work try moving closer to the wireless router to see if that solves the issues. If you are using a third party software to connect to the wireless AP. Make sure you have the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings unchecked in the Wireless network connection Properties window I had you open earlier to delete the profile in. If you are using a third party software like cisco, I would suggest using Windows to manage your connects.

Thanks,
ArmyMason

Wireless connection

Hi,

There are a few requirements other than the laptop and the wireless card. You need to also have an Wireless AP/Router that must be connected to the modem that connects to your ISP. All your PCs must then connect to this router either using the wired/Ethernet ports or WiFi.

If such a device (WiFi AP/Router) already exists and is connected to your modem and your other PC(s) are tied up to it and can access the Internet, you need to install the drivers (in a CD that came with the wireless card) to your IBM ThinkPad. Thereafter, you need to configure your laptop's wireless networking to access the AP/router. Your AP/Router must also be configured to accept wireless clients.

Please post back with brand/model of your AP/Router.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
