My monitor (Acer X233h) has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024. It's a wide-screen with a 16:9 dimension. This doesn't make sense, because the ratio of 1280x1024 is 16:13. But at that resolution, everything is stretched horizontally and distorted. The correct ratio for 16:9 is 1280x720, but at that setting, while everything is in proportion, it is all very large and the quality is very poor. Can someone explain why the native resolution is so far of, or if I'm doing something wrong here?

First, my system specs: 23" Acer X233h monitor with an HP Pavilion desktop. ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card, with Catalyst software installed Windows XP with Service Pack 3 Installed latest drivers from the Acer website The problem: The native resolution on this monitor is 1280 x 1024. With that setting, everything is stretched horizontally. However, with just the desktop open, my wallpaper is still in perfect proportion, but all the icons, taskbar, etc. remain stretched. If I change the resolution to 1280 x 720 everything is in proportion, but everything is also enlarged, making it a little fuzzy around the edges, and looking pretty low-res. As per the instructions, I connected everything with the power off, then turned on the monitor before turning on the computer. I know this computer and monitor are compatible because everything worked fine up until today. The only thing I've done was disconnect everything to move the computer.
