You have display problem comes from impact or presure to top of the laptop. That is moves the connection flex cable from LCD and board.
Another small problems is also small chips on screen that can not be possible to fixed. ( cracks on METAL LINEs IN GLASS) causes the problem.Another issue is LCD cable might faulty that need to be change.

Right click on the screen and left click on properties, then click the desktop tab, and at the lower right hand you will see Browse, below that Position then Color. Under position, choose either the option, change it from Tilke, to stretch or Center and apply and OK and your good.

Laptop screen was divided into 6 small parts

have the same problem. if updating the graphics driver doesnt work then it probably is the same as my problem.
HP service center said it's the graphics card or video card but since the video card is embedded in the motherboard, then you will have to replace the motherboard.

Black screen with vertical lines through it

Could be faulty graphics chip or faulty screen. If you can hook up external monitor and picture is fine then probably faulty screen. If external monitor shows same problem the faulty graphics chip. Take to repair shop and let them have a look.

My Ibm Laptop r51 has a vertical lines on the screen

The lines appearing on your LCD means it has a defect on the screen.

There are 3 types of pixel defect
1) dead pixel - pixel is always off
2) stuck pixel - pixel is always on
3) hot pixel - pixel is on but in red, green, blue or yellow, can also be a light black color

You can try to fix stuck or hot pixels but dead is dead.
1st method, flashing different colors rapidly:
JSScreenfix.com has a great tool. This is their free java applet or you can download it below.

2nd method, applying pressure to pixel:
Damp paper towel, Small stylus or dull pencil.

3rd method, tapping the pixel:
Pen with cover on or another small, blunt object.

Vertical Lines in Monitor

If the lines are only on your laptop screen, it is generally the display IC on the LCD panel.

When plugged into an external monitor and you still see the lines, it is the video memory on your laptop.

Vertical lines

Unfortunately you have a bad display. There isn't any way to repair the display itself when these problems occur, but it can be replaced. Usually it costs almost as much to replace a laptop display as it does to replace the laptop, though. You might try an internet search for a replacement screen; there are a good number of sources. You might also check ebay or craigslist. You can sometimes find a dead unit you can get the display from.
