Their is no sound card device. but their is a sound card built in

You may check whether it is enabled in BIOS. The on-chip sound card should be enabled in BIOS. You can check your manual to see how to enter BIOS when booting up your computer.

Since my a16 bios update on my dell inspiron 1525 theres no sound, tried all the diagnostics i can find and nothing seems to fix it.

It is likely that the BIOs update left the sound chip setting switched off. Simply go into the BIOs and find the section for Onbpard DEvices and re-enable it.

Compaq presario V6406 TU audio driver

Hi Darshak,
Did Compaq send you to this site; (Windows Vista drivers).
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3446931

Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver. If this fails to install or card is not recognized, make sure the settings in the bios for sound is enabled. If it is than the only other possibility is the sound chip has gone bad. (This can not be repaired, only refurbished).
Chances are the laptop is warranted for at least one year. You need to check on that. Compaq will not let you know this unless you ask. Check your recipt date.

Good luck Darshak!
Thank you for using fixya.

Problem with Windows XP recognizing Creative Sound Card

It sounds like a software problem. Though you did the right thing by entering the bios & disabling the onboard sound. That should have been enough. Did you uninstall the old intergrated sound drivers before adding the 24bit card? Just about all the drivers & upgrades for your 4600 through Dell is Creative software & thats why your having a tough time. I would put everything back to how it was. Re-enable the intergrated sound & reboot! Run system restore & check that every thing is running right!! Look at this dell web site for the sound drivers you have at this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
If you must, install a upgrade for your intergrated sound. Just so you can uninstall it after a reboot. Re disable the sound in the bios. Do not install your new card yet. While back in windows device manager you should be missing a PCI device. Shut down install the new sound card. Hopefully windows will want the drivers & all runs fine. If still no it could be a bad card (i know what your thinking but it's possible). The only thing left is the regestry is using the wrong PCI device.
