I recently purchased a used Technics 1200-MK2 turntable. Aside from the obvious wear and tear, there is one issue that I can not seem to fix. One the pitch slider, the factory set zero (green light is on) is not dead on. The large spinning beads on the turntable move slightly when they are supposed to be still. I have to move the pitch slider to +2 to get the turntable at perfect zero. How could I fix this?

- Thanks. I will try that. Everywhere I look they say that the Green Lighted Zero CAN'T BE CHANGED.....but in this instance it has. I will come back with updates once I fix that.Aug 12, 2009
- Yeah Tatty. I already had the entire bottom off today to solder some better rcas (since the dude I bought it from sliced together RCAs poorly) as well as internally ground the ground wire.
My next step is fixing the pitch. Hopefully with what you have said so far I can tackle it and fix it tomorrow night.Aug 13, 2009
- So unfortunately the Pitch pot was perfectly centered and untampered with...BUT there was a good amount of "gunk" underneath.
I just found a forum of someone who had similar issues with the fader. The green light I forgot to mention doesn't go on when the Slider clicks in the center. This person on the forums had the same problem and it wound up being a lot of "gunk" under the actual pitch slider. I think the next step is to get under the pitch slider and clean it off to make a better connection. I will see if that helps. The ENTIRE pitch slider going by the dots is off. Everything is off by +2. So Hopefully that will help.Aug 15, 2009
- After cleaning out the pitch slider...underneath it, on top, and inbetween, there is absolutely no difference.
Some key points that I think may lead to my solution
The entire slider INCLUDING the quartz lock seem to be EXACTLY off my 2.
I am going to play around with the pitch control within the turntable (why are their two btw?...one under the pitch slider and one on top by the motor?) That may fix it all...If not it may be something more serious I can't fix on my own.
Anymore advice would definitely be welcomed.Sep 01, 2009
- So you think adjusting the pitch controls would do nothing?
The other option I have heard is to remove the actual Quartz Lock and realign the pitch shift.
I have tried cleaning the actual control fader as much as I could without desoldering. It did absolutely nothing.
How would I be able to determine if an IC is bad? any easy sign of one being damaged?Sep 01, 2009
- UPDATE: I figure this information would help.
<br>
<br>
The blue pitch knob under the platform has the arrow pointing northeast. The dots on platform are aligned as followed.
<br>
<br>
Top Dots: +6
<br>
Dots below top: +4
<br>
Center big dots: +2
<br>
Bottom dots: -1
<br>
So the top dots are aligned, but everything else is off. This confuses me a lot more. Any more advice would be appreciated.Sep 08, 2009
- I thoroughly cleaned the Pitch Fader with compressed air. I saw some minor dust bunnies fly out, but when I tested the turntable again, it had zero impact on the off-set rpms.
