OPTIARC CD-RW CRX880A ATA DEVICE

1) Click Start
2) Click run
3) Type "regedit" w/o the quotes
4) Double Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
5) Double Click SYSTEM
6) Double Click CurrentControlSet
7) Doulbe Click Control
8) Double Click Class
9) Look for {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} underneath the Class node of the tree
10) After you find it, single click it
11) On the right half of the window look for LOWERFILTERS, right-click it and select Delete
12) On the right half of the window look for UPPERFILTER, right-click it and select Delete

Reboot your system

found a solution on another site that seems to work (it's all gobblygook to me, but it gave us back access to the drive)
It requires editing the registry, so back the registry up first (create a system restore point too).
SOLUTION
locate and remove 2 registry values (the lower filters and upper filters) by following these trails in the registry as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then SYSTEM then CURRENTCONTROLSET then CONTROL then CLASS then {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} then in the right frame highlight LOWERFILTERS and delete, then highlight UPPERFILTERS and delete. The exit the registry, and reboot the laptop.

just to say a big thank you to solving my problum i had getting the optiarc dvd drive to work in windows as i lost it compleatly,i got caught in the same trap by buying driver detective, which couldnt find the driver much thanks, kmack au

I followed your instructions DmgInc to the letter. One thing though, I dont seem to have an upperfilter in mine only lowerfilter... I have deleted it and still no change...
