Re: problem

There is a problem in your power supply, one of the capacitors maybe busted, it also happened in one of my computers, that is one of the most problems in computers specially when you used this for a long period of time. try to replace this with a new one.

Troubling in sata connection

  • I suppose there is a jumper(beside the power pin) on your new HDD,
  • if its true the your HDD supports 3GB/s mode but your motherboard does not .
  • So place the jumper on the HDD on 1.5GB/s combination.
  • Disconnect the 80 GB,
  • Connect the new HDD,
  • Boot from any bootable xp or vista or any disk tool like erd commander and try to format the new HDD.
  • Then connect the new HDD and boot from it.
Tell me what happened.

Strange problem

have you tried putting a fan for the hard drive? although it may sound strange, auto shutoff happens in rare times.

i had this harddrive before that also had this problem, but eversince i transfered my pc to my moms room( airconditioned), ive noticed it doesnt have that problem anymore.

hope this helps.
