My hp f1703 flat panel monitor has recently started dimming. Power button remains blue. Desktop is there, but very very dim. My computer is just over three years old. What are my options?

The back light in the monitor screen is no longer working, or the solder joints on the inverter board are bad. Try this sight if you still have the monitor.
Hope this helps!

Check the cable wiring make sure all is plugged up right, If you have rebooted and it comes on ok than its the power cord. Remove and re-plug again

My laptop comes on but the monitor is blank

Your backlight is probably burnt out or the inverter needs replaced. The backlight will be a pain in the rear to do so you might want to try a new / used (working) inverter in it first. Hook your laptop up to a external desktop monitor. If you computer boots up, and you can see everything on the external display, you've got an inverter or backlight issue. Shine a flashlight on the laptop screen. You'll see a very dim image of your desktop.

Dark screen

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.

Video dim on my s3600t

Try another monitor. Borrow a monitor from a friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker. If the Borrowed monitor shows things bright and clear then your original monitor is bad. If the borrowed monitor shows things dim like your original monitor, then your video card inside the computer is bad.

Dell E173FP shows nothing

The backlight may have died. LCD monitors work by shining a light through the active diodes.

Will not turn on? Battery is charged and power adapter on. No response at all?

This can be a few things first see if the fans and hard drive are spinning. If neither is it normally means the motherboard has failed and needs to be replaced.

After that if both are on and spinning shine a flashlight on the screen. If you see a dim image of the desktop it means the back light had died and needs to be replaced.

If the image is not dim and both are on try connecting an external monitor to the laptop. If you don't see anything on the external monitor either it means the laptops video card has failed and needs to be replaced. However if you do see an image on the screen it means either the laptops LCD cable or the LCD itself needs to be replaced.

Screen is black.

Please shine a flashlight on the monitor screen.
If you see a dim image on the screen the back light needs to be replaced.

If it still shows black try another data cable from the monitor to the computer

If that still did not work as the machine is turned on remove the data cable connector from the computer. Check the monitor screen to see if it says no signal. If it does not the LCD screen on the monitor needs to be replaced. If it does the computers graphics card needs to be replaced.

MD96015 Monitor problem

Sounds like you may have a bad LCD backlight or inverter. When the screen is dark, take it into a dark area and see if you can see the screen dimly showing. Or, shine a flash light on the screen and see if you can make out anything showing up.
Try this and let me know what you find.

Whenever i turn my acer on the screen doesnt show up and i know it is on, one time i started to be able to see the screen dimly but the contrast wouldnt turn up! please help

Try shining a flashlight or a lamp on the screen and see if you can faintly see the Windows desktop in the background. If you can then the problem is the backlight. Laptop screens have a light that shines from behind the screen and lets you see the display. If this is a laptop computer it will need to go in for service. If this is a monitor for a desktop computer you can try turning it on and off a few times, or leave it unplugged for a few hours and try it again but failing that it also needs service.

Big Problem

Hi Nvidiot, Sounds like the backlight inverter board. It's a very common problem. LCD's use four small Cold Compact Fluorescent bulbs to back light the display. (thats what gives the LCD it's brightness allowing you to see it) The inverter board runs these lights and when they go bad they will typically show symptoms like you have or the monitor power light comes on and you have either no display or a very dim display. If you ever have one that has no display but the power light is on you can check by shining a flashlight directly into the LCD from the front (right into the screen) if you can see an image then it's either the inverter board (most likely) or the CCFL bulbs have gone bad. The inverter board and CCFL's are replaceable. Good Luck, El Duderino
