Hi there. I've been having trouble with my desktop for a while. At some point, I came home and tried to turn it on. Only to find that pressing the power button did nothing. Later on that day I tried again and it worked fine. As far as I can tell, when that happens, the green light in the back doesn't light and there's only a soft clicking sound from the back of the tower. I tried replacing the power cord and using different outlets, but it turned out to be by chance whether or not it would turn on. It's been a few months and the power went out a few nights ago. Normally this wouldn't last more than a day, but I haven't been able to power it on since it went off that night.
Is this a serious (and expensive) problem? What should I/ is there anything else I can do?
The click sound is the relay clicking when the power on. The power supply has something wrong so the protection relay is triggered and cut off power to main board. Test fans see if they are stucked and spinning smouthly. Smell if anything burn from the power supply box. Most likely, you need to change the power sup. Good luck
Hi
Most likely cause is a faulty power supply, however if you have had a power cut then sometimes the mobo is damaged. Get power supply checked first by Tech.

I have a gateway gm5478 model pc with a 22inch lcd gateway fpd2275w monitor(purchased 12/07) for family use and the monitor started giving me the no signal display about 3-4 months ago and has increased in frequency to the point now that I once it happens I can't get it to recognize the computer. Did all the usual fixes reset and powered everything down, disconnected and then reconnected after a couple of minutes.
