Re: toaster smoked

Possibly, especially if there is any grease or oil on conducting elements. I have had devices that were packed in styrofoam get small pieces down inside the devices so check for them first if possible. Before you trust the device, plug it into a bathroom or bedroom receptacle that is equipped with ground fault detection. Plugging it in outside on a dry concrete or sandy area and running a loaf of bread through it should tell you if it's ok. The birds should eat the toast it makes

How do i get the old timer out and put in the new?

First unplug the toaster. Remove the crumb tray. Turn toaster over and remove the 4 rubber feet an 2 other screws holding the bottom on. this will expose the works and the back of the timer.
Gently pry the knob off evenly on both side this will expose 2 screws holding the timer to the toaster. Remove the screws the timmer is now loose for removal. The new timer schould have included a couple of wiring diagrams to attach the new switch. please follow it carefully it is not the same as the old one. reverse steps to reasemble toaster

Hi, The dial on our Dualit toaster gets stuck on

The timer can be rplaced by any good handyman. You can get a new one on ebay there are two types make sure you get the right one. Replace it before someone forgets to shut it off and the toaster smokes up the kitchen. Its a common problem with the dualits but the switch is not cheap and you can only get it from England. The good news is the replacement seems to be better made than the original

Toaster handle won't stay down.

Either get a new toaster or get a replacement, the option mostly would be "Get a new toaster" but sometimes your lucky enough to get a free replacement. It depends on whether it's made by a "Official Company" or by a just some downtown lads (if you know what I mean, just refreshers in making stuff).

Paula Deen toaster egg poacher caught on fire

The same thing happened to me today and I've been searching the internet for other complaints. It happened exactly as you said, I heard a buzzing noise and went to see what it was and it was the toaster- smoke started to come out from the top. Please report your experience to the CPSC! This thing needs to be recalled!

How do you replace the elements in a Hobart 4 slot toaster? I took off the bottom but there must be something I am missing. It's awfully small in there to manuever. There has to be a trick. Please share.

No Tricks. The elements are loaded and removed from the top.
Remove the crumb dtrawers, they are handy to put the parts on so the don't roll away.Remove the temperature knob after releasing the set screw, remove the lever knob after removing the pivot screw. Remove the 3 front and 4 rear cover screws with a philips driver. note the length of the screws from the locations.
Locate the element to change, disconnect the connections at front and back on the top of the element. With a small flat bladed screw driver, open the crimp tabs on each end of the bread guides and lift up. They come out of alignment holes in the lower frame. Replace the element/s, with the correct voltage replacement. 208 and 240 elements are different numbers. Reassemble in reverse order. Be carefull not to catch the element with the bread guard wires. It's common to see a bit of smoke during burnin of new elements for a short time.

Only toasts part of bread

The solution I got from the FixYa team was: "Get a new toaster." Which is how I ended up with 4 new toasters that don't work. I'm glad I didn't PAY for THAT answer.

Dualit 4 slice toaster

measure and record the resistance of the elements. attach an ohmmeter to the (unplugged) power cord and push down the toast loading mechanism. wire the elements up until you get the same reading on the ohmmeter you got when ohming the elements out individually. Then make sure the ohmmeter reads open when the toast loader mechanism is deactivated. Then make real sure that the hot side of the ac power plug (the smaller plug) is not electrically connected to the case of the unit. Take the unit outside on a fireproof base and run an extension cord to it but leave it unplugged. Better yet use a switching power socket if you have one. Load it with toast and actuate the toast loading mechanism. Stand away from the unit and power it up. You may want to run it several times to eliminate any smoke from it due to contamination. Be aware that any finger acids or other contaminants on the elements will shorten their lifespan so you might want to clean it and let it dry thoroughly before use.
