SOURCE: MY EMERSON MS9700 READS NO READY WHEN I TRY TO
I've been having similar problems. I've had mine over 4 years, so it is likely on its last leg. To resolve, nothing techno here, I take both hand an simultaneously give the entire unit a good "bang" on both sides. Sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts, but so far it has been working. I'm already on the look out for a new system, as i know this probably won't work forever.

The disk would not spin. Removed 3 screws holding top "bearning deal" trying to remove it. could not get it off but disk would then spin. Worked even when i put screws back!

If the indication says" not ready " it means that the disc is not reading the data present on it . It is possible that the disc is not scanned by the optical head to be ready to play.
So it is possible that the optical head is defective or weak, please try to clean the optical eye with ear bud very softly or use a disc cleaner.
If there is no result the head can be faulty.
If the set was not used for long time please keep it powered ON.
Also the processing section/main board can be a suspect.
